Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest.

The experience can be booked carefree and is absolutely worth the price. If you deposit your mobile number, you will get the meeting point confirmed the day before and the guide will personally register for the meeting point at the port of the cruise terminal. In 15 minutes you are walking from the ship at the terminal building. Our guide Son (Sonny) guided us through the day tiptop and is like all Vietnamese very friendly and competent. The tour is highly recommended for a full day trip with food (tiptop).

We had a wonderful day with our guide "Sunny". He worked hard to make our day as enjoyable as possible. I would highly recommend "Sunny" as your guide. In addition the crew of the boat we were on were attentive and the chief was very talented as the included lunch was great.

It was well run with friendly staff. An option was to visit an oster farm which we didn't do. The trip ticked all the boxes on the list, and the kayaking was great fun. Our lunch was fresh and tasty and I'm the whole trip went well. The cave is amazing.

I was contacted by our guide the day before and we met him at the big Cruise Terminal building at the land end of the pier. We were a nice-sized group, all from the same ship. Sonny took us to a waiting boat which was very comfortable with seats and tables and clean toilets. We had to sit inside while leaving and arriving at landings but otherwise were free to wander around the boat. Tea was served as we left, a good, varied lunch a little early, and tea and a snack on the return journey. Ha Long bay is popular and gets busy with boats. Sonny was clever in getting ahead of the crowds. We explored a huge and fascinating limestone cave; there were quite a lot of steps, but quite even and not all at once, so it wasn't too strenuous. We stopped for the choice of a kayak or a bamboo boat ride through a natural tunnel into a lovely bay. There were monkeys and the boat rower sold fruit to feed them at US$1 per basket. She wanted a tip at the end, but wasn't too insistent. We couldn't do a speed boat ride ($15) as there were none available. We stopped at a beach where we could climb a lot of steep, uneven and busy steps to a good viewpoint of the bay. There is also a good viewpoint halfway up, which I recommend! We also had time to swim but there were no showers. Sonny, our guide, was very pleasant. He spoke very good English and was interesting about the bay, its features, and life there.

You have seen these islands in many movies now see them for yourself! We went on a small boat tour through a cave to the other side & saw many monkeys. It is very diverse, climb many stairs to a temple (or not!), lunch prepared on the boat was huge, & eagles flying high! Really memorable.

This excursion is perfect for cruise ship passengers, as Johnny met 20 of us at the port terminal. The boat could take a maximum of 48, so it was perfect, as was the itinerary for our 7 hour tour. We especially enjoyed the 8 course lunch, as well as the bamboo boat ride to see the monkeys, the Speedboat ride and the beach with the opportunity to climb to the top of the island. Johnny was informative, and his staff made the day enjoyable. For anyone on a cruise who is hesitant to make the 2+ hour journey to Hanoi for the day, I recommend this Halong Bay tour.

Sonny, bless his heart, had to “herd cats”, lol and did so with patience and professionalism. The meet up was clear and easy. Several alternatives were offered throughout the day. The only criticism I could possibly give is that the area is over saturated with tourists but it’s a great area so no real surprise. Definitely be prepared for crowds but if you get Sonny, you will be in good hands.

Tour guide, Johnny, was wonderfully organized and personable. We had a cloudy day and a low tide so Halong Bay was not as scenic as we had hoped. The bay got more and more crowded with boats as the day progressed so if you can, go early. The oyster farm was interesting the caves were striking. The beach stop was overwhelmingly crowded with boats and people.
