Looking for things to do in Santo Domingo? You can't miss this hike in Dominican Republic. Let´s get to know the dominican countryside and the coolest hike in DR: El Tabernáculo.
LGBTQ+ friendly experience, vegetarian accomodating
We first take a 2-hour road trip full of breathtaking sights to get to Los Cacaos.
We begin our journey to El Tabernáculo. It's a 3-hour route within hiking, swimming, climbing, etc. It's a route full of adrenaline and adventure. Swimming is mandatory, but you don't need to know how to swim with the life vest. The difficulty of this route is considered medium, it's a strenuous experience. It's not easy, completely doable, though. You must not have any injuries. You don't need to be an athlete, though.
After the hike, we change clothes (there's no restroom, we use the vehicle and nature) and go back to the town to have a dominican lunch.
Then we come back happy to Santo Domingo at around 4pm.

Absolutely amazing experience! Randolph, our guide, ensured everyone felt safe during the hike/climb/swim. Don’t miss this experience. My feet did get really cold though.

One of the best tours I’ve been to. It is adventurous, and the sights are beautiful. Get ready to get wet. Our tour guide, Randolph, was amazing guiding us all the way through. Great communication before and during the trip. They were also on time and the experience did not feel rushed at all. The lunch was great after all the hiking in a traditional Dominican house. I recommend doing this 100% if you have the stamina and love nature.

I going to keep 5-ratings going. What an experience. You will get a work out. You will get wet. You will probably slip. You will probably get cold. But it was worth it. We have done similar activities but this one felt like it catered for a younger, adventurous crowd - but that wasn't the case. Ronnie was there helping every step of the way. Whether it was people who lacked climbing or swimming skills, he was there and everyone in our group completed the trek. 1. Lunch was tasty, local and made on location after the trek. 2. The ride from Zona Colonial is a bumpy 3+ hours ...both ways. 3. I run cold, that said, wear something long-sleeved and maybe full length swim pants (down to ankles). Easily 1/2 the group was shivering at least some of the journey. 4. There is not elaborate changing rooms so plan accordingly. 5. I wore water shoes but wish I had a pair of hiking (trail) shoes with socks. And remember to leave time for wet shoes/clothing to dry unless you want to pack wet clothes for your flight home. 6. If you want to bring your phone make sure to get/bring a decent water case that still allows you to snap fotos. 7. Tip.

Great experience. Drive there is quite long and bumpy but worth it. Small minivans to minimize pickups and only 2 vans so only 14 total. Guide was fantastic and helpful for the more cautiousof the group. Lunch was delicious. Bring water.

We had an amazing time on our tour to El Tabernáculo out of Santo Domingo. The experience was incredibly fun and well organized from start to finish. Our guide, Ronnie, was absolutely fantastic—helpful, funny, and really informative without ever making it feel like a lecture. He made everyone feel comfortable and kept the energy up the whole time. My wife and I both had a great time and would highly recommend this tour, especially if you’re lucky enough to have Ronnie as your guide!

Me and my buddies have been traveling for a couple days now and have done several activities through Viator. This was by far our best experience to date. The hike was absolutely beautiful and getting to swim and experience the waterfall was beyond words I can express. Our tour guide Randolph was the best tour guide we have had and made the experience unforgettable. When I come back I’ll definitely be requesting him as a tour guide.

One of the best excursions in Santo Domingo AND most importantly, best service- Ronnie picked us up on time, communicated throughout hiking excursion, assisted with photos and videos, and his personality was so much fun! I will book again!

e tour of the Tabernacle Waterfalls was absolutely electrifying! It perfectly blends heart-pounding adventure with moments of pure relaxation. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience where you’ll witness breathtaking sights you simply can’t see anywhere else. Our guide, Randell, was phenomenal—his intimate knowledge of the area was mind-blowing! He pointed out every rock in the river, letting us know which ones were safe and which were slippery, and each stop came with a fascinating story. The authentic Dominican cuisine was a surprising highlight too—I tried fresh star fruit for the very first time and instantly fell in love. Honestly, this tour is worth every penny and then some!
