What To Expect
Teotihuacan Municipality
The hot air balloon ride offers an aerial view of the Teotihuacan Valley. Passengers can purchase a pass to tour the Teotihuacan Archaeological Zone, including its main monuments, as well as cultural points of interest such as traditional food restaurants, craft areas and establishments serving typical drinks from the region.
We'll be heading to one of the top local restaurants where you can enjoy a broad breakfast menu.

5.00I chose Flying Pictures after reading a number of positive reviews online of the operation and opted for the VIP Package so that my wife, daughter and I could enjoy a flight in a smaller balloon designed for four pax. It did cost more but you get what you pay for. The added benefits for this package looked appealing and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Our flight was on 23 April 2026 and everything was excellent, from being driven to and from the launch site from CDMX in a very comfortable SUV by Raul, a friendly and engaging chap despite the language barrier, the amazing dawn flight, the included still and video recordings made by a designated photographer, a balloon-mounted Go-Pro and a drone during launch and which were provided later on an SD card, the post-flight French champagne and canapé’s before a tour of caves adjacent to the archeological site and then a fabulous walking tour of the pyramids with a private guide that finished with lunch at a relaxing restaurant before heading back to Mexico City. I’m a retired Australian military pilot and this was my first hot air balloon flight so I was somewhat curious. I loved the whole experience and I was especially pleased on arrival to observe just how professional and safety conscious everyone involved was, both the well organised ground crews launching and recovering each balloon and the excellent and engaging pilots. I think our pilot was named Diego and he was great, keeping us informed about everything that was happening or about to happen, explaining what he was doing and showing us interesting features on the ground. He also had a great playlist of suitable music to listen to as we drifted along while watching the sun rise. While the light breeze on the day didn’t allow us to pass over the pyramid complex, we could see it and the flight was no less enjoyable before we descended and landed very gently in an open field that Diego was able to manoeuvre the balloon to by identifying changes in the direction of the light and variable wind and varying the balloon’s altitude as we approached the intended landing point. I found that fascinating in itself. I cannot recommend Flying Pictures highly enough.

5.00We were thrilled with our balloon ride and guided tours of a ceremonial cave and Teotihuacan. From the time we were picked up at our hotel, everything ran smoothly, safely, and on time. Our driver, pilot and tour guide were top-notch and the support team was excellent. As part of our package, we received an SD card filled with great images captured during the flight, including drone videos.

5.00Picked up at 4:40am and a 45min ride to the flight site. A coffee pastry and visit to the toilet. Photos were taken by the companies professional photographer. A safety briefing in the basket before take off. The flight was smooth and peaceful over the Teotihuacán pyramids. A very safe and smooth landing and then a traditional glass of champagne. A quick ride back to the take off site took see the professional photos. Very expensive in my opinion. If the price was halved, I reckon they would sell twice as many! Breakfast and then a visit to the pyramids. The overall experience was excellent and well worth the money. A bucket item ticked off.

5.00We had an incredible experience hot air ballooning with Flying Pictures. The whole operation was very professional and smooth. Booking was easy and communication was excellent. On the day of the trip, we were picked up exactly on time by Roy, who drove us an hour to the launch site. There was coffee and light snacks available, and then we were set up in groups to get into our balloon. There were several company photographers around taking pictures, and the video from the flight was compiled from Go Pros attached to the balloon as well as drones flying around, which made for excellent videos. The flight was beautiful and a lot of fun. The landing was smoother than expected. We were then taken to a buffet breakfast, then to the pyramids for an hour and a half of free time. We decided to head back a bit early and our driver was waiting to take us back to Mexico City. In all it was a perfect experience, felt very safe and professional, and I would highly recommend!

4.00We enjoyed our hot air balloon experience. However, the sunrise tour was a bit misleading. Despite getting up at 4:20 am for the sunrise balloon tour, you actually are not on the balloon for the sunrise. However, the scenery was beautiful once we were up in the air. We also really enjoyed walking around the pyramids. Definitely recommend this trip.

5.00Amazing experience from start to finish. Communication was great, Erika our driver was so friendly and kept us safe, and Montserrat was an amazing guide while showing us the Sun and Moon temples. We really appreciated her. They also gave us hats for that part of the tour, which was a lovely touch as it was very hot. The sunrise hot air balloon ride was absolutely worth the early wake-up — such an unforgettable bucket-list experience. Would definitely recommend.

5.00We had an incredible experience with Flying Pictures and would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Mexico City. We ended up purchasing a tour with private transport, a private balloon ride, and a private pyramid tour. It also included breakfast and a tasting of local drinks. Veronica was extremely helpful from the beginning. I wasn’t sure which package to select on the website, and she took the time to answer my questions over WhatsApp. We were also a little concerned about the weather the day before our tour because the forecast showed a chance of rain, but she addressed our concerns and reassured us. Of course, the day went perfectly. Veronica sent our driver’s information the night before the tour and even followed up afterward to ask how our tour went. Our driver, Gustavo, was excellent. He arrived on time for our early 5:15 am pickup and took care of our transportation throughout the day. He drove us to the balloon launch site, then to breakfast, to the Teotihuacán pyramids, and later to a drink tasting at the same location as breakfast before navigating quite a bit of traffic to get us back to Mexico City around 1 PM. Before the flight, the staff kindly took photos of us with our phones in front of the balloons, which we really appreciated. They also gave clear instructions about where the GoPro was positioned and how the drone footage would work so we knew where to look during the flight. The hot air balloon ride was spectacular. Gerardo, our cowboy hat wearing pilot, has 20 years of experience. He made us feel very safe throughout the flight, which lasted about 40–45 minutes. We saw incredible views of the pyramids, other balloons, the sunrise, and the surrounding valley. We floated low enough to see the pyramids up close and high enough to see an aerial view of the pyramids and the many balloons flying over the valley. After landing, they served sparkling wine and orange juice for mimosas, which was a really nice touch. We also received souvenirs including hats and a magnet. They showed us previews of the drone footage and photographs, and we purchased a whole package. It’s on an SD card so we are excited to view everything when we get home. After the balloon ride, our driver took us to breakfast, which was a buffet. Then Gustavo drove us to the pyramids and called our guide so we did not have to wait long when we arrived. Our pyramid tour guide, Christopher, gave us a very informative tour of the Teotihuacán pyramids and ruins. The tour lasted about an hour and a half and was full of background and historical context that enhanced the experience more than if we had just wandered around on our own. After the tour, we went back to the breakfast place where we had a tasting of local drinks. Then Gustavo drove us back to Mexico City. From start to finish, the entire process felt smooth, organized, and professional. The staff was kind and knowledgeable. Considering everything that was included, we also felt it was a very good value. This was truly a memorable experience and one of the highlights of our trip. We had a fantastic time and would absolutely recommend Flying Pictures to anyone considering a Teotihuacán balloon tour.
