Most of the imperial city has been bombarded during the war and only half has been restored. 90 mins walk with a tour guide would be sufficient. Our experienced guide Nhien walked us through palace to palace and told us the story of each of the imperial family member. Despite the effort trying to restore it to the original shape, the material used can hardly duplicate. The collection is very limited since most artifacts have been destroyed. Those who expect to see the actual palace might be disappointed.

My father and I had the tour with Nhi and we are so happy we did. We learnt so much about Vietnam culture and the area that we would not have discovered if we had walked around alone. Now when we walk around Vietnam, we understand more about what we are looking at, like all the dragons, unicorns and turtles and their significance in Vietnam culture! Nhi was excellent at explaining everything and we would highly recommend this tour.

Hong was an excellent guide. It was a small group and we learned so much. He was responsive in setting up the tour, on time, professional and friendly. We were so happy with the tour and learned so much about the Citadel, Forbidden City and history of Vietnam generally.
