The Grey Glacier Ice Hike is a unique 5-hour adventure that offers the rare opportunity to walk directly on the ice of one of Torres del Paine’s most iconic glaciers.
Once the group is ready, a zodiac boat will transport you to a remote beach near the glacier's edge. There, you'll hike for about an hour across the rocky moraine to reach the starting point. After a comprehensive safety briefing from the guide, you'll strap on your crampons and embark on a 2.5-hour trek across the glacier’s surface—an unforgettable journey through a frozen world of crevasses, blue ice, and breathtaking scenery.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
To be able to take the tour at 8:30 AM it is essential to overnight at Grey Camping or Refugio the night before
To be able to do the tour at 2:30 PM it is essential to overnight at the Camping or Refugio Grey at the end of the activity

What To Expect
The Grey Glacier Ice Trekking tour begins at Grey Base Camp, in the Grey Beach sector of Torres del Paine National Park. After assembling, you’ll board a zodiac boat for a 20-minute ride to the glacier. Once there, you’ll disembark near the glacier wall and hike for about one hour across the moraine to reach the ice. Your guide will provide a safety briefing, and then you’ll begin a two-and-a-half-hour hike on the glacier, exploring crevasses, rivers, lagoons, tunnels, and ice caves. At the end of the trek, you’ll return to the beach and board the zodiac for the return to Grey Base Camp, where snacks and hot drinks await.

5.00I booked the 8:30 a.m. departure after having breakfast at 7 a.m. at Grey Hostel. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the hostel to the tour meeting point, following the signs. We reached the glacier by motorboat, and we were provided with crampons and ice axes. The tour was led by two guides. We didn’t go very far onto the glacier, but they showed us a river right on the ice where we could collect drinking water. We returned around 12:00–12:30 p.m., which left enough time to have lunch at the hostel and still plenty of time to walk to Paine Grande Hostel.
A real highlight of our trip. Great guides and good organisation

5.00Good experience. Helpful and well prepared guides. Good equipment and clear instructions. Definitely recommend it as an add-on to the W trek. We stayed the night at Refugio Grey and it made for a great afternoon activity.

5.00Carlos and Mickey were fabulous guides who showed us many highlights as we walked across Grey Glacier. They took the time to ensure everyone was safe, had ample time to take photos and see lots of caves, deep ravines and blue pools in the Glacier itself. The experience was Amazing - and they captured many photos to remember the experience.
