With one foot on Europe and the other on Asia, Istanbul is exactly on the crossroads of bird migratory routes. It is squeezed not only between two continents, but also two climate systems, the European and Mediterranean climate. The northern shores are fringed with humid forests, whereas the southern shores are drier. The sea shore and lagoons provide excellent birding opportunities.

Excellent trip led by Dogan Bilge, who chose a best destination based on what birds were around on the day (it was a migratory season). He picked me up where I was staying, and we drove/hiked to each spot where he knew we would see a particular bird. It was an unforgettable day of birding. Dogan speaks excellent English and knows all the bird names in English. What I learned from the tour also helped me a lot in finding birds when I went on to other parts of Turkey (Selcuc and Izmir Birds Paradise). I recommend checking out Dogan’s Instagram page for beautiful bird photos. ESkapas’s customer support was quick, super responsive, and professional. A great experience.
