What To Expect
Veliko Tarnovo
The duration of the tour is 6 hours and departs from Poborcheski square, Veliko Tarnovo. Your guide will lead you to visit at first the biggest monastery in Veiko Tarnovo region - the Transfiguration Monastery, where you can talk to the abbot. Roman city Nicopolis ad Istrum had an exceptional 3 km long aqueduct. Just imagine the scale of work needed from the ancient people to build the city. Other sights during the trip include the Eagle's Stony Heights Cave, Cherven - one of the best preserved medieval fortresses in Bulgaria and of course the Rock-Hewn Churches of Ivanovo and the Rock-Hewn Monastery of Besarbovo.
Veliko Tarnovo
You'll be travelling with a minivan and there'd be total flexibility for photo brakes and food breaks. There is always a tavern or a restaurant on the way at where you can taste the local wines. If you are a wine lover that would be a must, because the region is known for its wine-grape varieties. After the trip is finished, you'll be transferred to your hotel or at a desired location.

3.00The access to the rock church is a bit rough and steep. According to the full-bodied descriptions, one is somewhat puzzled by the caves and sparse legacies, the majority of which are already closed due to the danger situation. The frescoes are impressive - especially if you know they are over 600 years old. At present, hardly any visitors get lost; we were the only ones on site.

5.00Set in a stunning valley the walk itself with the views is worth a trip. The church with the paintings from the 13th century is amazing. The walnut trees in the parking lot provided the snacks we needed.
