Your tour begins at the historic heart of Karlsruhe, where the city’s unique fan-shaped layout radiates outward from this central square. Dominated by the striking pyramid marking the tomb of the city’s founder, Margrave Karl Wilhelm, Marktplatz offers an immediate sense of Karlsruhe’s planned design and Enlightenment-era origins. Surrounded by neoclassical architecture, it provides a perfect introduction to the city’s history and urban identity.
A short walk leads to Karlsruhe Palace, the symbolic center from which the entire city was designed. Built in the early 18th century, this Baroque residence now houses the Baden State Museum. Visitors can admire the palace’s grand façade and learn how it once served as the seat of regional power, while also appreciating its role as the focal point of Karlsruhe’s distinctive radial street pattern.

The entire town is organised as a dream round tour. You can either start from the Castle to the Zoo or vice versa, but either way you will have lots of fun in not a tiresome 2 kilometre distance from the two points. In case you have more time, there is much much more to explore and see.
