Swayambhunath, also known as the "Monkey Temple," is a historic and sacred site perched atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. This ancient stupa is one of the most revered Buddhist shrines in the country and holds immense cultural and religious significance. The name "Swayambhunath" means "self-existent one," reflecting the belief that the stupa has existed since time immemorial. Its striking white dome with a gilded spire is adorned with the iconic painted eyes of the Buddha, symbolizing his all-seeing wisdom and compassion. The surrounding area is home to numerous other shrines, temples, and prayer wheels, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere. The site offers panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and is a place of pilgrimage. The presence of playful monkeys, from which it derives its nickname, adds to the unique charm of Swayambhunath, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking spiritual and cultural experiences in Nepal.

I had a truly wonderful experience on this full day tour. It was just me, the guide, and the driver. I only had two days to explore the city and this was perfect for cultural sites, learning about Nepalese history and culture, and finding special gifts/souvenirs along the way.

It was fun and informative. Sumit was a great and knowlegable guide. He was able to answer our questions. Highly recommended. Reminder: Get ready for a really long day, 10 to 11 hours. Lots of walking in this tour, uphill, downhill, so wear the right shoes. Bring enough cash to pay for fees in each sites.

One of the best tour experience I had here. It’s a one day packed with 7 UNESCO attractions, quite some walking but not entirely tiring. Our tour guide Sumit is very experienced and gave us good story telling of each location. Driver Krishna is also very helpful throughout the journey. Highly recommended!

Highly recommend this tour in Kathmandu. It’s a great way to see some of the top sites in a day. Our guide, Ram, was great. He looked after us and helped to explain everything very well. Transport and communication before all very good.
