On the way to Kazbegi, we stop at the picturesque Zhinvali Water Reservoir, and then visit the Ananuri Castle on the Aragvi River. The castle was the scene of numerous battles and served as a shelter for the local population during the wars. Ananuri is considered one of the most beautiful historical monuments of Georgia.
At an altitude of 2200 meters above the sea level, on the southern side of the plateau of the Greater Caucasus Range, and near the Cross Pass, there is the Gudauri Ski resort.
The Panorama Gudauri is a monument to celebrate the friendship between Georgia and Russia.
Stepantsminda is a small town. The main attraction here is the Church of the Holy Trinity – the Gergeti Monastery that is located at an altitude of 2170 meters under the mountain pick of Kazbegi. Due to its location on the top of a steep mountain, surrounded by very harsh nature, the church became the symbol of preservation of the Georgian relics.

What To Expect
Zhinvali Water Reservoir
Jinvali Water Reservoir, also known as a lake, is located on the Georgian Military Highway. Soviets constructed the dam in the 1980s—a wonderful place to take amazing pictures.
Ananuri Fortified Castle Ensemble
Ananuri fortress dates to XVI-XVIII centuries and it is situated on the foreland by the river Aragvi. Ananuri was a castle and seat of the Eristavis (Dukes) of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century. The castle was the scene of numerous battles. This is a perfect place for landscape photography, there are amazingly beautiful views of the fortress and Jinvali reservoir together. The fortress remained in use until the beginning of the 19th century. In 2007, the complex has been on the tentative list for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage Site program.

2.00I would really recommend other tour operators than viator. This is my second experience in a different country. 1. We booked english tour. It was specifically mentioned on the ticket. But the guide started speaking in Russian. It was a mixed crowd, viator smartly out everyone in one group. A fellow english group literally had to threaten then to also speak in english or drop them and issue a refund. 2. They took us for lunch a designated place which meant nobody can grab a bite from another resturant. The food was stale and over priced. Order was taken on book with 12% service charge. No receipt was given. There were 3 other couples sitting with us on the same table. Nobody could eat the food as it was either stale or meat wasn't cooked properly. As expected, we had food poisoning the next day. Something, you wouldn't want during a vacation. 3. Kazbegi experience which was so hyper up was the worst. Don't waste your time and money on viator.

5.00Our one-day group tour to Kazbegi was amazing. We were lucky because it was the first day of snowfall, which made everything look magical. We visited a lot of tourist spots, and the whole experience was both fun and educational. Special thanks to Kati, our tour guide, who felt like a best friend and a teacher at the same time. She’s fun to be with, always energetic, and always encouraging us to try new and exciting things. We truly enjoyed every moment—from the scenic drives to the breathtaking viewpoints and the small cultural stories she shared along the way. It’s definitely a tour we’ll remember for a long time.

5.00I joined a one-day group tour to Gudauri, Ananuri Fortress, and Kazbegi, and it was a wonderful experience. The trip was well organized and very comfortable throughout. Our guide, Mr. Mamuka, was excellent — very knowledgeable, friendly, and clear in his explanations. He made the journey enjoyable with his insights about the places we visited. Overall, a great tour and highly recommended for anyone exploring Georgia!

2.00Don’t book this trip. It eats up all your day and you really don’t see much. It was extremely tiring driving back over 3.5 hours and driving is very dangerous!

4.00The trip was good and covered all the main spots. Lucca is a good guide, but I didn’t appreciate that he opened the tour by listing rules, it came across a bit abrupt. Most guides start with a warm introduction and weave the rules in naturally. But he was knowledgeable, and his clear English accent made everything easy to follow.
