I loved completing the local market tour with Doreen, she was so friendly and knowledgeable. It was so valuable to learn about the produce that I would be using in the cooking class. I am now able to apply what I have learnt from this tour to my home cooking. Doreen was able to answer all of my questions. The cooking class that took place after the market tour was great, Vivian was also knowledgable and helpful with breaking down the cooking skills step-by-step. I was given a cookbook with the recipes to take home, which I have since used for my friends!

A super fun way to learn about the food and culture of Malaysia. Doreen took us on a tour of the food market first and took us through ingredients and market stalls with much knowledge and easy chatter. Once we got into the cooking class, Saadiyah gave us lessons in food and Malay life with candour and joy. She’s a cooking legend and showed so much care to both the food and us. Super recommend this class as an opportunity to delve further into the culture of Kuala Lumpur.

Incredible experience, beautiful outdoor space, fantastic chefs. This was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip for sure. We made some great authentic sambal and rendang (big checkboxes on my list). Highly recommend

Saandiah Daub is an absolute gem of a teacher. Very thorough with her demonstrations, instructions and reasoning behind each step, while simultaneously being both patient and entertaining. Our attempts all turned out brilliantly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at a Saturday class at LaZat Cooking School. The market tour with Irene was so interesting particularly learning about the different spices and herbs essential for Malaysian cooking. The cooking class was loads of fun and Saadiah, our cooking teacher, was a patient, humorous and knowledgeable instructor. She happily passed on her knowledge of best techniques to prepare an authentic Malay meal and shared many cooking tips, stories and the culture behind Malaysian food and its traditions. Our group of eight (visiting from Australia) loved the whole experience and the Chicken Rendang Sambal and Nasi Lemak were delicious. We can’t wait to make the same dishes again back in Australia with the aid of the recipe book that was provided. Thanks for a great day!

We did 2 classes with Lazat - the plant based and the nasi lemak. Both were great fun and a fantastic experience overall. The whole operation including the market tour and the class itself is extremely well organised and we learnt so much not just about ingredients and cooking techniques but also about Malaysian culture in general. Would highly recommend booking classes with Lazat!!

Brilliant experience and by far the best thing we did in KL! The market tour was a great way to start. We got to learn a bit about Asian cooling ingredients and the local breakfast was delicious. The fresh herbs and spices were completely different to that which we get in the UK. For the class, our teacher Saadian was amazing! She was an amazing character and a brilliant teacher!

What a great day out, sadly I was the only one there which made it a wonderful private tour for me but the operators would do well with a group as well. Tour of the market showed me the authentic shopping and everyone was very welcoming. Then a private driver to the cooking school where I was well catered for and had a lovely day testing out recipes and chatting with the tutor. Highly recommend to others.

An absolute highlight of my visit to Kuala Lumpur! Starting off with Doreen’s market tour, I learned about the variety of ingredients sold in the market and which dishes they are used in. Doreen was knowledgeable and was keen to answer my questions regarding how to use certain spices and made recommendations on what to buy to use in my own cooking at home. The classes (I booked two; Baba Nonya Chicken Kapitan and Indian street food ) were fantastic! I had my own prep and cooking station. All the tools and ingredients I needed were provided. Irene, my chef for both days, demonstrated and I followed her lead. Great sense of humour and another wealth of knowledge, Irene guided me through the recipes answering my many questions on substitutions, ingredient quality and storage. I learned so much from these classes about Malaysia and Malaysians and the history of their country through food. A great way to spend a day immersed in everything Malaysian 🌺
