I recently saw Moulin Rouge! The Musical in London, and to be honest, it was a bit of a letdown. The main issue for me was the casting of Satine. The role should feel elegant, refined, and slightly fragile — that contrast is kind of the whole point of the character. Instead, the performance leaned much more towards power than poise. There’s no question the voice was strong, but it didn’t really match the delicacy or sophistication you expect from Satine, so it felt slightly off throughout. The second problem was the music. I get that they’re trying to modernise things and appeal to a broader (and probably younger) audience, but it felt overdone. A lot of the songs were mashed together or reworked in a way that just didn’t add anything. If anything, it took away from the emotional impact. It came across like they were trying to recreate the success of & Juliet, but without the same sense of purpose or flow. The final issue was the tone overall — it just didn’t take itself seriously enough. There’s obviously always going to be a level of spectacle with Moulin Rouge!, but this leaned too far into being playful and over-the-top, to the point where the emotional moments didn’t land. “Come What May” should be the standout moment, but there was barely any chemistry between the leads, which made it feel quite flat instead of powerful. Visually, it’s impressive and there’s plenty of energy, but it ultimately prioritises style over substance. For something that should have real emotional weight behind it, that’s a pretty big miss.

From start to finish, this show will have you on the edge of your seat. The energy from the cast was amazing, and the story and delivery, with a modern twist, are just fab.

Not bad by any means, but if you’re visiting London as a tourist, this would be very low down on my recommendations for a musical to watch. It’s a jukebox musical meaning almost all of the songs are songs from the 2010s that everyone is sick of. The cast is insanely talented and the costumes and set are gorgeous…but the plot and songs are boring. I would recommend most other musicals before this one!

I have been a couple of times now after it being recommended. I am surprised no one talks about the dancers!!! They are amaaaaaaazing! The duo love scene songs I found a bit too often and boring but wow! The upbeat dance scenes and choreography was the best I have seen. I have been unlucky to get the swing lead man who though he has a great voice and looks good, he just isn't at the level as a lead man in this role. I am sure he is fabulous in other roles but this just isn't his. I would love to see it with the lead man. I cant put into words how great the singers are and how first class the dancers are, especially the Philippine/chines male dancer who I think is the most amazing dancer and performer I have ever seen on stage. Talk about live your work and be in the moment at all times. he is incredible....and his technique!!!! Lead woman is a legue of her own. Loved it and could go back monthly if I lived in the uk. Well done to all.

Incredible experience, couldn’t have been better. We got a session with the substitute singer Ryan Gavin, who has the most beautiful voice ever. Worth every penny. Amazing sets, singers, wardrobe. A true spectacle!

What a great entertaining show. I think what makes the show is all the additional songs that everyone knows, one after the other. The staging and scenery were brilliant. As were the cast, particularly Satine, she was outstanding. The rest of the cast were also really good. I wouldn't have cast that actor as Christian though, he just didn't do it for me, sorry! I didn't feel the emotion from him.
