Saqqara Pyramid
First, your tour guide will pick you up from your requested location to start your journey across the three ancient necropolises. The tour begins with a visit to the Saqqara necropolis and the Pyramid of Djoser. This pyramid is the world's earliest colossal stone building. This structure played a fundamental role in Egyptian history, as improvements to it formed the basis for other pyramids. The pyramids at Giza and elsewhere in the desert near Cairo form part of the legacy of an ancient city and civilisation that declined long before Cairo was founded. This civilisation named this area Memphis, the seat of power during the Old Kingdom (2686–2181 BC) of ancient Egypt and home to the pharaohs who built the pyramids.
Saqqara is one of several notable necropolis sites near Cairo that offer impressive sights and hold great archaeological significance. Saqqara may even hold more interest for archaeologists than Giza. The vast site contains burials dating from before the beginning of the Old Kingdom through to the Greek period of Egyptian history. The most famous structure at Saqqara by far is Djoser’s Step Pyramid. Dating from the 3rd Dynasty, it was the first stone structure of its kind ever built. It also displays an important architectural innovation that would be used in the construction of the Giza Pyramids and other pyramids built during the Fourth Dynasty and later. Djoser’s pyramid was the first to use multiple mastabas (rectangular tomb structures) stacked on top of one another to form a stepped pyramid, setting the stage for the smooth sides of the Giza pyramids and the smaller pyramids of the 5th and 6th dynasties found at Saqqara and other nearby sites, such as Dahshur and Abu Sir.

Aly Elsheemy was our excellent guide. Our driver, even though we didn’t get to talk to him, was very good. We were picked up on time from our hotel in Giza and then driven to Saqqara where we were taken around the archeological sites and we went into the Unas pyramid which was amazing inside! We did not enter the Step Pyramid due to the necessary extra cost! We were then taken to a place which showed us how Egyptian rugs (carpets) are made (which was amazing) and then we had the option to buy. We were not pressurised to buy anything. We then visited Dahshur where we entered the amazing Bent pyramid (which has been our favourite of five) and the Red pyramid, too. We then visited the open air museum at Memphis. We are now on our way for lunch at 2.20pm (we were given a snack to eat earlier). We have had a really good experience, particularly experiencing everyday life from being driven around. Thank you very much to perfectly educated Egyptologist Aly Elsheemy from Egypt in Tours and our driver! 💯 RECOMMENDED!

I used Aly Elsheemy from Egypt in Tours for three trips during my time in Egypt. He guides both small groups and solo travelers to locations in and around Cairo. My trips were the following: • Saqqara – this was the ideal solo/small group tour, capitalizing on his knowledge as an Egyptologist and knowledge/contacts at the site. Normal tours to this site do not cover it in the depth and detail that I was able to enjoy. We were able to get into sites not generally available to the public and also to quickly focus in on the public sites most in line with my interests. • Fayoum/Valley of the Whales – another incredible tour to an area where whale fossils from 35-45 million years ago have been found. The advantage of taking this trip solo was not as much the content of the trip, but as a solo traveler with this guide, we were able to avoid being “caravaned” with other tourists. This would have slowed our trip immensely! • Coptic Cairo and Bazaar – a solo tour, which not only covered the normal Coptic churches and mosques, but also the Walls of Cairo and a few other religious sites not normally part of the general group tours. The visit to the bazaar, which is somewhat of a tourist trap, was adapted to my preferences, which primarily focused on photography of various ancient religious buildings and interesting shops in the market. In short, I endorse Egypt in Tours strongly as a tour leader for solo tours. Although I did not participate as part of a group tour under his leadership, I anticipate his knowledge of the sites and methods to explore and explain them would translate well to that type of forum. His prices are reasonable, especially for the quality he provides.

Arrived on time and everything as agreed. Communicated with us perfectly. Felt and experienced 100% reliability and had no concerns. The car was clean and comfortable. Invited us to a private dinner and made personal connections with family, which was the highlight of our trip.

Both the driver and the guide Aly were excellent. They were very friendly and charasmatic, with great English. The tour of the sites was excellent, didn't feel rushed and showed us lots of interesting things not on the main routes. I'd highly recommend it.

These locations are less frequently visited than the famous Giza pyramids and not very far from town. It got progressively crowded while there. You will need to hire a driver from Cairo- too far for Uber. We went to the Red Pyramid, Memphis and Saqqara. We went at what we thought was a good pace- spent to walk around, take pictures, enjoy the surroundings. It was around Five hours start to end... Unbelievably, you can climb down the Red Pyramid. This takes some stamina. You are walking sideways, down a slope with a ceiling of 4-5 feet! At Saqqara, multiple things to see at the necropolis. Good luck figuring out what the ticket or doesn't cover. A ticket with add-ons for certain parts of the necropolis, even with the inclusive ticket. The add ons are not that expensive (maybe a few USD? I would have paid and additional $10 to not think about it). Still got to see plenty. There are attendants at several of the attractions to check your ticket. However, plenty of people who don't work there will ask to see your ticket. They want to be your guide and probably looking for a tip. Easier when you do have an honest professional tour guide! This tour was the best among a few ones we have had for the highlights of Cairo! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

This was a great experience getting beyond the big three pyramids at Giza. The sights are impressive and with many fewer people much easier to appreciate. The Red pyramid is amazing and much easier to get in and out of compared to Giza. Our guide was also great from the moment he picked us up in the morning until drop off. Tonsi was professional and knowledgeable in addition to being someone good to hang out with for a day. All around a great experience that I'd recommend to anyone.

Aly was a superb guide for our family through Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis. Not only was he informative in an engaging way, he also interacted with our seven year old son with grace, humour and genuine interest in his questions and ideas about the history around. Aly provided informed advice about how best to use our time at each site, where there is more to see than is possible to get to in a day (especially with a child in the group). As a result, we had a completely fulfilling day out, with memorable experiences of going inside three pyramids, examining tombs and visiting the ruins of Memphis, all with Aly’s expert guidance. The package also included a fantastic lunch of Egyptian falafel and a comfortable vehicle to make the journey, which was expertly piloted by Mohamed. All in all, the best of the four different tour packages we booked during our six days in Cairo. Can’t recommend this package, and Aly as guide, highly enough!

Aly Elsheemy was our guide, and his knowledge of Egypt was amazing. We were given sufficient time at each stop for our own explorations and photos. Indeed, it was great to visit pyramids that receive less tourists than the Giza ones. Also, it was simpler to go inside these pyramids in general. We enjoyed the length of the tour and the things we were able to see. We feel that full day tours would be a bit of information overload, but the half day tour was great! Unsurprisingly, as always with Egypt in tours, our tour guide was ready prior to the scheduled start time. We took 3 tours with Egypt in tours travel agency, and all were like this - I can certainly recommend them as a tour operator with whom you'd never go wrong!
