Udawalawe is undoubtedly one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see wild Asian Elephants throughout the year. Usually you will have better chance to spot herds of elephants if you choose morning departure. There are about 500 elephants in the park and they often roam in herds of up to 100. Udawalawe National Park is unique in terms of consistency in numbers of elephants roaming the park. If you choose afternoon departure, you will have great photographic opportunities of capturing the mesmerizing sunset with your camera. You may spot other animals in the park including water buffalo, wild boar, spotted deer, sambur deer, jackal, samber, black-naped hare, mongooses, bandicoots, foxes, the endemic toque macaque and gray langers. If you are lucky you might be able to see a leopard and other smaller cats, such as fishing cat and jungle cat.

Ravana Ella Falls
The falls have been named after the legendary character Ravana, which is connected to the famous Indian epic, the Ramayana. According to legend, it is said that Ravana (who was the king of Sri Lanka at the time) had kidnapped princess Sita, and had hidden her in the caves behind this waterfall, now simply known as the Ravana Ella Cave. At the time, the cave was surrounded with thick forests in the midst of wilderness. It is also believed that Rama’s queen bathed in a pool that accumulated the water falling from this waterfall.

Took our granddaughter to Porthcawl for a few days, the weather was on our side thank goodness so we spent time on Coney beach by the fair. Beach was lovely and clean. We ate at the Royal Oak pub fab food, we also ate at The Seagull pub again awesome food very reasonable prices. I have family in Porthcawl so it was lovely catching up. Our holiday apartment was gorgeous and very reasonably priced for high season. All in all it was great.

A good trip. We contacted very last min (on the morning of the trip) to arrange this. Our driver picked us up and drove safely with a food stop to Udawalawe. We had a good evening safari, lots of elephants and other animals, despite the weather and time of day not being ideal (morning is better and it was raining). We ended up arriving in Ella at around 7:30. We would recommend!

Who would have guessed but It actually worked out pretty smoothly. Since it is Sri Lanka in 2022 we were lucky there was an open gas station which had gas for us at 5am, but otherwise it was all pretty well planned and carried out. We started at 4 am, entered the safari at 6ish, finnished at 9am and got to Ella at 11:30. Our driver was a nice guy, didn‘t speak english but for a couple of words and was talking on his phone during most of the trip. But he drove safely (if you can say something like that about a sri lankan driver) He bought us some fruit and something to drink while waiting for us to finish the safari. A really nice guy. And well, 80$ are a lot of money, but you get a taxi halfway across Sri Lanka, so, yeah. Better than local busses and a lot less stressfull. In Udalawawe we had to pay 11.000 Rupies for the jeep, 12.500 as entrance fee (2 persons), 5000 for our guide (that was a tip, since they don‘t get paid and totally depend on tips) and another 1000 tip for your driver if you are nice. If you have never been on a safari it was definetly worth it. We saw some elephants up close, monkeys, peacocks and other birds, even some leopard tracks in the dirt. I would do this trip again and would recommend it to anyone who wants to save some time and stress on their trip. thank you

For us it was a great experience because everything worked out very uncomplicated. You have contact via WhatsApp in advance with the provider and can arrange the pick up. For us it went off in Mirissa at 4am, so we were in time for the park opening. The driver was nice, drove safely and the car was a modern hybrid model. Arrived at the park, he then directly arranges a jeep driver. We found this super uncomplicated, but others may prefer to find someone themselves and then negotiate the price. The safari itself was a great experience and we would do it again anytime. After the park visit it was about 2 hours further to Ella, where we arrived shortly after 11am.

Very fortunately we got on such an offer - transfer to Ella with a stop at Safari and Ravana Falls. The driver was polite, did everything we could to make him comfortable and comfortable, drove him all the way to the hotel in Ella. The safari is great! Elephants were seen, even close up and admiring, many beautiful birds, small animals. The price is also great, thank you very much for the quality service!

We used this service on New Years eve and exceeded expectations. We was collected at our hotel close to Mirissa, taken to the national park and then to Ella after. We was collected at 12 which allowed us to arrive to enjoy the Safari from 3-6pm and arrived at Ella at 8pm. The late afternoon/evening safari allowed us to avoid the heat in the middle of the day. We was also recommended a jeep guide when we arrived at the national park and was stress free. Tickets for the national park can be bought at the entrance. It worked out to be half the price of what we was quoted by a tour company. A good driver was provided and would highly recommend.

We went with Thilina from Ahangama to Ella. He was very nice and professional as well as a great driver. He improved our journey by suggesting we moved our afternoon hike to a morning hike (sunrise 😍) and that way we also had time to go to Udawalawe National park, something we thought we had to skip because we had too little time. Thilina arranged everything with the safari and we felt very safe and taken care of. The safari was amazing and we saw many beautiful animals!
