What To Expect

Kayaking in Monterey is often the highlight of any trip to the area. When checking into our shop, we will orient you on the perfect route to see all the wildlife in the area. Included in the rental is splash gear to keep you warm and drier and we also include a dry bag to take out cameras or phones to collect pictures of the amazing wildlife and scenery. Kayak rentals have no time limit and we encourage people who are trying this for the first time. We give a great orientation as to how to maneuver the equipment and how to stay safe. This was so much fun! A highlight of our trip. I highly recommend if you want to be in the outdoors and up close to nature! Kyle with Adventure by the Sea was so kind and a huge help.

fun experience! First time kayaking in the ocean, felt like this place is very safe and easy for kayaking. Saw lots of sea otters and birds, also saw some seals.
Great sea otters but rent for half a day if poss.

We are from Europe and my wife has wanted to see sea otters for several decades - we don't have these in Europe. They were as cute as they appear on photos but retiring: you need a good zoom lens and a steady hand to photograph them from five kayak lengths away. Lovely gentle two hours. You should be able to rent kayaks for just 3 hours rather than a whole day.

I didn’t expect to see as much wildlife as I did! I literally had a sea lion pop up and swim right next to me. They provided us with gear to help keep us warmer, and taught us how to use the kayaks. They told us where we were most likely to see animals and have tips. I did end up getting a little seasick and had to end much earlier than I wanted, so if you get sea sick or might I recommend preparing and getting some sea sick pills so you can be out as long as you want.
