This is not another Escobar selfie tour. This is a respecful tour with unique perspectives on the matter.
Yes, we talk about him — but this experience goes far beyond. Beyond Escobar shifts the spotlight from the man to the system: from myth to context, from glorification to understanding.
This walking tour explores the natural, historical and economic forces that shaped Medellín’s and Colombia's recent history — beginning with ancient traditions and tracing their transformation into a worldwide phenomenon with lasting social impact.
Discover untold stories, gain fresh perspectives, and see how local events became part of a global narrative.
Thought-provoking and deeply researched, Beyond Escobar is about history, economics, and the human cost of a complex chapter in Colombia’s past — without glorifying crime, and always keeping victims at the center.

We begin in Parque Lineal La Frontera, a green corridor at the edge of Medellín and Envigado, where we explore the cultural, spiritual, and medicinal uses of the coca leaf among Indigenous communities. We contrast this with its transformation into cocaine, explaining the production process and the devastating environmental consequences of dumping chemical waste into the jungle.
As we move to the next stop, we discuss the global history of coca and cocaine—how it was used by historical figures and how perceptions changed over time. In front of Montecasino, the former residence of the Castaño brothers (infamous for creating the paramilitaries and the vigilante group "Los Pepes"), we dive into the rise and fall of Escobar and the Medellin cartel. Here, we examine the violent era of narco-terrorism, the declaration of the War on Drugs by the U.S. government, and the effects of all that in the Colombian society.

Clear story about the history of how the coca plant ended up in Colombia and how a German generalist discovered that a chemical process creates a stimulant. It discusses how the production of cocaine ended up in Colombia and how many victims it caused. It's also about supply and demand.

100% a tour that you will need to do. The story that has to be told, but the story that also really has to be heard. Make the victims the heroes, not the bad guys.

One of the best guided tours I ever had. It’s actually more a masterclass than a tour: the guide Pablo guides you through a story that involves more than just the drug history in Medellin. In-depth discussions on the history and production process, the history and political situations and economics. Pablo knows very well how to explain difficult topics in a very clear way and was always able to answer clearly on questions from the group, and all of this with a very passionate attitude and personal involvement. It’s this type of experience that gives you so much more than a casual tour or the information you can find online.

This tour felt much more like a meaningful conversation than a standard guided tour, which made it incredibly engaging. Pablo, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the subject. He encouraged us to look at the problem from many different angles and provided important context that you don’t get elsewhere. Unlike other tours that focus on Pablo Escobar in a way that feels sensationalist and even insulting to the victims, this tour was thoughtful, respectful, and genuinely educational. Highly recommended

Wonderful tour. Very authentic. Our guide Pablo was so nice, explained everything great and really took his time. The good 3 hours passed very quickly, as it was completely very interesting. The tour is also very varied with various very well selected locations to get an optimal insight into the past events.

It was an amazing tour that tells the story in a different and I think better way. It shows the whole story from the view of victims and I think everybody needs to hear this.
