Captain Dave Amsterdam introduced early morning cruising in Amsterdam years ago. We sail early, when the canals are calm and quiet —the best time for relaxed cruising and beautiful photos.
Unlike standard tours with fixed routes and scripted commentary, our cruises are personal, informative, and fun. Every tour is different. We start along the iconic Canal Ring (UNESCO World Heritage) and let the city guide us.
Our boats:
At 8:00 & 10:00, we cruise on the Jonckvrouw —an intimate, fully electric Navigating Monument from 1928, once used by the Dutch royals. She features sliding glass windows, a sunroof, an open aft deck, heating, and a light‑use toilet.
At 8:30 & 10:30, we sail on our iconic James Bond boat, a former taxi boat with full 360° views, perfect for photography. Toilet on board.

What To Expect
Join our award-winning 'Best Boat Tour for Amsterdam' Sail through the beautiful canals of Amsterdam on our unique, comfortable boat. When the weather is nice, we open the roof and windows for fresh air and splendid views. We don't follow the same route every time or give boring talks. Gracious, experienced captain, who shared very interesting information with the guests as we cruised the canals in the early morning. We very much enjoyed having the canals almost to ourselves from 8am to 9:30am. We really enjoyed out time aboard. Thank you, Gisela!

5.00Captain Dave, what a legend. We did the morning trip with 5 other people, and had an excellent time. Dave is a proper character, full of good stories, really knowledgeable on the history of the area, multitasker (can make coffee and steer, as I said, legend). He is happy to adapt the tour based on what you prefer. We went out of the tourist areas and into more residential parts, which was really cool. And we never expected to get a good view of a giraffe. Book now, you won’t regret it. BTW Dave said he only really sails the early trips so the morning is the one to book 👌

5.00My family loved the early morning canal cruise. Our captain was very informative as well as funny. We were the only boat on the water which made the experience even better. Both of my kids said it was one of their favourite parts of our trip to Amsterdam.

5.00We had the best morning with Captain Ollie! Going on two weeks of travel and he was one of the best tour guides we have had thus far. We did the morning canal cruise which was so peaceful and gave us a look at the city before it was bustling with people. He was great with our kids and they really enjoyed the ride. We passed several large tour boats and I was grateful we booked with Capt Dave’s. It was a very small group which was nice to connect with other people and not feel like you were packed into a boat.

5.00We absolutely loved our canal cruise experience with Captain Dave’s company. Jan was our captain and he was welcoming, funny and incredibly knowledgeable! He also provided a list of recommendations for enjoying the best Amsterdam has to offer- we tried out his recommendation for fish at Lucius and it didn’t disappoint! Highly recommend this experience and hopefully you get Jan as your captain!
