Napa Valley Wine Train
Travel through the lush Napa Valley countryside and be transported back in time. Back to the romance and luxury of the golden age of train travel of the early 1900s, when guests explored the trains beyond their private quarters. Back to a time when a journey was meant to be savored from start to finish. Guests aboard the Gourmet Express experience both dining and lounge service, with some courses of your gourmet meal served in each car. Heading North, first seating guests begin their journey in the dining car, enjoying their fresh Sonoma greens or soup du jour and choice of entrée—roasted tenderloin of beef, lemon thyme roasted chicken, or gemelli pasta among them—followed by dessert with complimentary coffee or tea in one of the lounge cars on the return trip. Second seating guests sample appetizers and beverages in one of our lounge cars en route to St. Helena, and choice of soup or salad, entrée, and dessert on the way back to the station. Fresh California gourmet meals are crafted by Executive Chef Donald Young and his passionate culinary team in one of three onboard kitchens. Located immediately next to each dining area, guests are encouraged to explore the Train and visit the kitchen cars and see our chefs in action. Choose the Gourmet Express for lunch, when the sun is bright and high in the sky. Or for something even more romantic, join us onboard for evening dinner. In the spring and summer, the long, warm California twilight means that when you take your Wine Train journey, Napa Valley’s vineyards are bathed in beautiful, golden hour sunlight for most of the way, with the opportunity to see some spectacular Napa sunsets. In the Fall and the Winter, when the train departs after sunset, you will experience the romance and adventure of an antique train traveling through the dark, starlit Napa Valley night. In the spirit of traditional rail seating, you may share the experience—and a table—with another party. Need a bit of privacy? Private seating is available in the Champagne Vista Dome on dinner trains and some private tables (for two) are available on lunch trains.
3-course meal, train fare, sales tax, event fee, welcome taste of sparkling wine, coffee & tea

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and our friends celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful trip. Dressing up, visiting the Grgich Hills winery. The train was great and the food delicious. Excellent way to celebrate.

It was a cool experience. The waitresses were especially awesome. It would be better if a wine tasting from one of the wineries the train passes was included on the journey- even if it were one red and one white.

We went to celebrate our anniversary and both the ladies at check-in and our server acknowledged it. Food was great. Order the cheese plate upon booking (it's cheaper); it gets the experience started along with your welcome sparkling wine. Drink selection (alcohol and non-alcohol) was great. I think 3hrs on the train was sufficient. I didn't expect the train to rock as much as it did. I was expecting a smoother ride, but I also have never ridden a train before. The music was nice. The crowd was spaced evenly throughout the cars (even for a Monday). Service was great and welcoming. The train was clean including the bathroom. You were able to explore a few other cars after lunch service which was nice to see the other cabin options. This experience is great for a celebration, but try to catch a deal/promo/discount as the price is pretty expensive. You get a free digital photo before stepping onto the train, but be ready as it is only a one-click shot. Cafe has coffee, tea and snacks (no espresso). There a couple backdrops to take photos at while you wait to board. The gift shop has a great selection of wine. They are open when you return to the station, but the Cafe is not. It was a nice experience, but due to the price, I don't think I would do it again.

Since we love restored trains and this was our first visit to Napa we thought the Wine train would be perfect. The trip was enjoyable and the food also good. The train is beautiful. I'm giving it only three stars because it was ridiculously expensive. The 3 hour lunch trip was over $800 just for my wife and me.

the train conductor made a horrible joke about the most painful aspect of my body, putting me in uncontrollable tears. we had to leave the train and get an uber from the side of the freeway. this was supposed to be a magical birthday, and he ruined all my wife’s careful loving planning. strongly advise avoiding the wine train, unless your body is shaped to their approval.

My daughter & I did the 6 hour wine train tour. Definitely a must do! You get breakfast, a wine tasting on the train (by the iconic Napa Valley sign), lunch, cheese course, dessert, and stops at two wineries for tastings. The food was wonderful and the server, Sandy, and maitre d, Oscar, were excellent -- friendly, funny, and efficient. The staff in the "station" and store are also wonderful. Very helpful and the store will keep your purchases in the store until you return after your trip.

A little pricey, but food was excellent. It was hard to hear the person who would narrate, because passenger conversations were very loud.

The legacy tour was everything we hoped that it would be. The MC was attentive, informative and enjoyable to listen to. The 4 course meal was delicious and had good choices. We pre-ordered the Judgement of Paris 1976 Wine Flight. All 3 wines were delicious. Note: the 3rd wine was a bonus due to us pre-booking the flight. The champagne on arrival was lovely. 3 wines were offered for tasting on the open air cart. These were my least favourite of the day. The vineyard tastings were beautifully located with lovely wines. The dancing in the open air cart at the end was plenty of fun!

Tasting on the rails is the option we booked for Valentine's day! It was a great experience with great food and amazing service. The tables are set apart enough that it does not feel too crowded. With the options we booked we did not leave the train but there was an area at the back that would go outside and take photos. The train does move and shake but not to the point that would cause sickness, at least not for us. The food and wine was great and our two servers were very friendly. It was a great experience and worth the value.
