A Callejoneada is a traditional musical procession that takes place in the streets and alleyways of Guanajuato, a city in central Mexico. It is a unique and vibrant cultural experience that combines music, dance, and folklore, and is popular among locals and visitors alike.
During a Callejoneada, a group of musicians and dancers, known as the Estudiantina, lead a procession through the narrow streets of the city, playing traditional Mexican music on instruments such as guitars, violins, and trumpets. The Estudiantina members wear colorful traditional costumes and hats, and the procession is often accompanied by dancers who perform traditional Mexican dances such as the Jarabe Tapatio.
As the procession moves through the streets, the musicians and dancers interact with the audience, encouraging them to join in the singing and dancing. The Callejoneada typically ends in a central plaza or open space, where the musicians and dancers perform a final set of songs and dances.
The Callejoneada is an important part of the cultural heritage of Guanajuato and has been celebrated in the city for over a century. It is a lively and joyful celebration of Mexican music, dance, and culture, and is a must-see for anyone visiting the city.

Iglesia de San Diego
The tour begins at the San Diego Church, where we will begin to induce a warm and fun atmosphere under our traditional Mexican music. The instruments that we will use are Guitar, Bandurria, Pandero, Double Bass and sometimes Accordion.
Once we enter into a fun atmosphere, we will begin to walk through 12 of the most emblematic alleys of the city, including the well-known Salto del Mono alley, during the entire walk the tourists are accompanied by music, dances, legends and Mexican and Spanish folklore.

I wanted to like it, I liked the premise of it: students trying to make a living while bringing people for a walk, and entertain them with music. Maybe it’s a cultural thing, and it probably is, however I found that the best part was the first 10 minutes, where we were all seated on the church steps listening to the music and singing along. For the rest, the group was way too large (about 70 people) for the narrow passageways of the town; if you end up at the back of the group you’ll miss most of what’s going on. I also felt pressured to buy things, be it drinks, flowers and ribbons. Again, it may be cultural, as at least half of the people purchased something. I’m guessing going on an earliest tour might be better as I’ve heard it’s normally not that crowded.

Thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment, music, dancing, and laughs. Little odd to receive a sales pitch to buy individual roses, but would definitely recommend. Ours was entirely in Spanish, which while we understood fine and enjoyed, it could be any issue for other non-speakers. Unsure if English is even available. Possible they tailor to audience. Very talented group, glad to have done it

The musicians were talented, full of energy, and had the audience participating with them. The presentation is in Spanish and requires climbing up and down stairs. Optional offers: As part of the experience they had a professional photographer who offered to take four pictures for approx. $5. They offered sampling of local drinks, and offered flowers to share with your loved one(s) for approx $8. For me, one of the best memories in Guanajuato.
