From beginning of September to April the chances of seeing the Northern Lights in Northern Norway are great.
The weather (cloud cover) and the geomagnetic prognosis determine where the road takes us on the given day.
We will take you where the chances of clear skies are the greatest and the best locations for seeing the Northern Lights.
We go all in to find the Northern lights by checking 25+ different spots. Some nights we have a late return to Bodo (like 2 am).
Last seasons we have had a hit rate around 80 %. Before the trip starts we will advice on how the chances to see the lights are.
We head out from town in a comfortable Mercedes 7 seater van (4WD) with panoramic sunroof.

What To Expect
Bodo
Bodø is situated just above the Arctic circle, thus a good place to hunt the northern lights. Join us on a small-group northern lights safari from Bodø by car where we venture into the countryside after dark.

5.00We had a fantastic Northern Lights tour with Ivar! He took us to beautiful, quiet spots to view the Northern Lights and was able to tell us a bit about how they are formed. He also provided us with food and some snacks. In short, highly recommended if you are in Bodø and want to see the Northern Lights.

The night we were booked to go Ivar contacted us to say that the chances of seeing the lights was not good so he offered us the chance of taking the tour the following evening. Ivar brought us from to the forest to the shore to ensure that we got the best sighting possible of the lights so although the conditions weren’t ideal we got a good view of the Northern lights and he also provided us with photos of the trip a day later. Great experience with a very knowledgeable guide. Also the trip started at 7pm and Ivar dropped us at our ferry after 2 pm the following morning. Highly recommend

5.00very experienced tour guide, even the weather is bad, but they still can find the aurora. it’s very luck tonight. we can see the beautiful aurora. and it’s small group tour with vehicles today just 5 people including me and my wife. very comfortable. i like the tour guide very much.

5.00This small group aurora tour is well organized. The destination is a cloudless sky. The Giude knows his way around and knows which places to approach at the moment. I really liked the communication and flexibility in advance as well as the good mood during the trip. Good photos included. Should I go on holiday in Bodø again, I will book here again.

5.00We had an amazing Northern Lights tour with Ivar in Bodø! It was a small group (5 people) and such a fun, personal experience. Ivar drove us all over the area hunting for the lights and even included us in watching the weather and data so we could understand what we were looking for. He took tons of great photos for us throughout the night, both candid shots and group photos. We also stopped to warm up with hot drinks and treats in the van while watching the lights, which was such a cozy and memorable moment. Ivar is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the outdoors and the northern lights. If you’re visiting Bodø and want a great adventure, I highly recommend booking a tour with him. Five stars all the way!

4.00The excursion with Ivar was great! We saw the Northern Lights, after a beautiful and long drive through the Norwegian polar night. He did his best to find THE spot by checking different places, you feel that he is a real enthusiast. He also gave us valuable information for the scientific understanding of these phenomena, which I think was a little too abstract. To fill it all in, we had great photos! I recommend:) Thanks, Ivar.

5.00My family and I had a fantastic Northern Lights tour on February 10, 2026. Ivar was the best driver and guide - very experienced in hunting northern lights. And he was really good at telling and explaining about the light and nature in Norway. And late in the evening Ivar found the most beautiful northern lights (and also algae), and we got many good photos home. All in all a really good trip, which we can warmly recommend.

5.00We went driving around hunting for the aurora, looking for dark places where the cky is clear. Ivar shared details how to check aurora forecasts, what factors affect visibility (weather, cloud cover, solar activity), and how he decides where to go each night. And best of all, we got to see them! It was an awesome experience. Highly recommended.
