We´ll visit family owned and run eateries where locals indulge in authentic homemade style comfort food cooked following family recipes passed down from one generation to the next.
Some of these eateries make only one dish cooked to perfection.
A stop a the main square will be the perfect setting to take a few vacation photos courtesy of your foodie guide/photographer.
This is an easy peasy walk on flat well streets.
You´ll delight on 8 to 12 tastes and sips equivalent to a large meal. No one ever leaves hungry from the tour.
*It only takes a 12 min Uber or taxi drive to get away from the touristy crowds of the Hotel Zone, Downtown and Old Town to get to Pitillal, a vibrant neighborhood.
Please note that there aren't vegan/vegetarian choices in this food tour.

What To Expect
Feel and breath a different vibe here in Downtown Pitillal. This is not your typical touristy Puerto Vallarta, rather a small neighborhood where the hustle and bustle starts before 6 in the morning. There is amazing homemade cooking often missed by visitors. Pitillal is a working class neighborhood that bursts into life before 6am. . Saturday night is the busiest for local families that come to the square looking to have a good time. There are street performers, food, music, and the occasional special event that sets this area apart from the touristy Zona Romántica. . Small produce shops, and shops in general abound here. Old printing press machines from over 50 years ago are still used here. Watch hat makers, piñata artisans. Visit medicinal herb shops, the largest tortilla factory in town, etc. Pitillal will make you feel like you have stepped out of the touristy Vallarta and into the Real Mexico.

5.00Cha Cha our guide was so warm, personable, and accommodating. They were very knowledgeable and passionate about the area, culture, and food. We got to try a variety of different authentic food that we wouldn't have tried on our own. We loved having the chance to walk around absorbing the energy of the neighborhood. Don't eat anything before hand because you will be full for sure! Make sure you stress which church to go for the meet up because our taxi driver took us to a different one thinking we made a mistake.

5.00Star, thank you for giving us a taste of local culture. Off the beaten path was like a breath of fresh air in area not saturated by tourist. Star share some amazing food while giving us a history of the food and how it came to be in current times. My favorite was tasting a 100% corn tortilla fresh out of the factory. No wait, maybe it was the carnitas tacos. It’s to hard to choose a favorite, but it was 100% worth it.

5.00My husband and I had the most wonderful experience with Vallarta Local during our honeymoon in PV. We did both the brunch and dinner off the beaten path tours (on separate days), and while they were in the same neighborhood, they were both unique, delicious experiences. We loved being in an area of the city that was less touristy and getting a truly authentic taste of how the locals eat. We were also enthralled by all that we learned about the regional cuisine and how the locals typically shop and cook. Each tour was the perfect amount of time and food both. We left full but not overly stuffed. The price is more than worth it for what you get food and experience-wise, and knowing that the company’s values mirror ours made our choice a no-brainer. Given that we were there during the low season, our brunch tour was basically a personal one, and our dinner tour was with one other couple (and it was fun to have the company!) Therefore, I can’t speak to a high season experience, but imagine that others add to the energy and experience in a positive way. If you’re looking for an engaging, memorable food tour experience in PV, Vallarta Local is the company to deliver it!

5.00We had a wonderful time!! Couldn't have asked for more. Star was amazing! Not only will you get to experience local foods but local culture and history as well. She is extremely knowledgeable on the history of the area as well as the history of traditional Mexican food and how it has been preserved over time. We have done three other such tours in the area over the past four years and this one was our favorite! Star is very personable and we felt like we'd made a friend by the end of our tour. 10/10 recommend!!!

5.00If you are looking for something local and not touristy, this is the tour for you as cha cha brings you all around Pittlial neighbourhood. It's been a pleasure going around and listening about the history of Pittlial. Could not recommend more!!
I really enjoy knowing all the local foods around, real food and real experience, you dont see much of that now a days

5.00This was our second tour with Vallarta Local Food Tours. Star and Cha Cha are awesome. We've eaten delicious food and learned a lot about PV and Pitallal on their friendly and relaxed tours. We will keep coming back. Our 9 year old also loves the tours.

5.00A wonderful experience! Star was a such a great guide, full of knowledge and took us to local authentic family run restaurants. All the food was delicious. Our family has taken numerous food tours from different cities in the United States to overseas in Portugal, France, Iceland, Guatemala to just name a few. Vallarta Local is right at the top!
