The Pacaya Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in Guatemala, with a height of approximately 2,500 meters above sea level. The environment is made up of wet forests and rocks. It has stunning views of the Calderas Lagoon which we visit from the seat of our ATVs and three other volcanoes: Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango. On our unique Adventure we will take ATVs from San Vicente Pacaya to various areas near and around the Pacaya Volcano. We will go on various trails to some of the villages located at the base of the volcano, where we are able to hike up the side of the volcano on top of the petrified lava flow as high as you are able to go. Throughout the tour we will be able to admire different views of the volcanoes and drive through some of the villages. We will drive through different off road trails, and we will even take some time to drive on the volcanic sand and lava fields inside of a private plantation.
We DO NOT go to the San Vicente Pacaya National park.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Pacaya Volcano ATV tour. Our lead guide Johnny and his crew were excellent and informative. Here are my tips- You will be covered with dirt & dust by the end of the day so don't wear a white t-shirt like I did. Bring either a quality facemask or balaclava. They should offer these for purchase at their shop in Pacaya. While my helmet had a brand new flip up visor with great visibility my friends visors were so badly scratched they could not use them. Be sure to check the quality of your visor beforehand or bring adequate eye protection. Wear sturdy shoes for walking in the different areas that you visit. There are many opportunities to twist your ankle! While the entire tour is eight hours in length the day flies by so don't worry about it being too long. The only negative part of the tour was that we were encouraged to keep in a tight formation all the time. I can understand this when visiting different areas on pavement but when you are doing some semi steep climbs there needs to be more space between vehicles for two reasons. #1. I was taught and believe to follow at a SAFE distance. During one section in a paticular steep area you need to build some speed to climb. I had to stop completely for the rider in front of me who stopped and the ATV did not have enough power to start from a standstill on the incline. An employee had to physically give me a push to start moving again and I only weigh 180lbs. #2. When travelling through the countryside there was an incredible amount of dust which made visibility difficult. At one point in these areas the guide pressed us to stay as close together as possible. This is inherently unsafe. I saw a few riders bump into other riders from behind. In my opinion the guides should tell riders to maintain a certin amount of distance between each ATV for safety sake. When I mentioned that the dust made visibilty difficult I was told "Everyday is dusty at Pacaya" which I thought was borderline rude and inconsiderate. Other than that in all honesty it was the best experience I've had in my three months here in Guatemala! I would recommend this trip to everyone. Granted Antigua is beautiful but this trip to Pacaya shows you the real Guatemala!

A lot of fun especially if you have driven atv's before. There was a fun mix of off-road and riding through small towns. Perfect amount of stops to walk on Dried lava, drink water, take photos, dip your toes in a lake. Depending on traffic, it can be 1.5 hr van ride from Antigua to the start of the ride.

Great experience... but a long day. We started at 8:30 and had about an hour and 15 minute drive to the location. Once at the location we got helmets and our ATV. The ATV were easy to navigate and overall felt safe. The first 2 locations were definitely a must see when coming to Guatemala. The guide was very informative. The second stop is when we ate our lunch. They provided a sandwich, chips, some candies, water, and Gatorade. The last stop was the lake, personally I would have been ok not going to it and ending the trip early. We didn't get back to Antigua till after 6pm. Overall it was a good time!

So much fun! My first time riding an ATV and now I want one! Guides were awesome: very helpful and will stick with your group throughout the entire trip in case you need support. Allow time to travel to the ATV location and to get set up. They will show you how to use the ATV (so easy). Once you get comfortable, it’s a blast! Highly suggest taking something to cover your nose as it gets dusty once you’re on the dirt path. You can have your backpack on you if you want to take it with you, no problem. Recommended if you’re in Antigua for sure!

Outstanding tour! The tour guide (Leo) was excellent. Spoke perfect English and was quite entertaining. The ATVs were well maintained and the route that was planned was the perfect mix paved road, gravel road and complete off road!

Such an exhilarating experience! So incredible to be so near the volcano. Walking on the lava field was amazing. It was a long and intense ATV ride and totally worth it! The views were amazing.

ATV Pacaya tour was great! Lots of time spent on the ATV on rough ground, exhilarating! Had a little walk on the volcanic lava rock, our guides Estuardo & Ericson were attentive and friendly, helping with taking photos and digging out hot lava rocks for us!! A great day, highly recommend this tour. Previously we had done the ATV Mountain tour and that also was excellent but more for a novice ATV driver compared to the ATV Pacaya tour so if you’re concerned about driving I recommend you do that one first!
