We are the only company that offers sunrise tours of Pacaya.
There are several benefits of going during the sunrise. The first being that the rivers of lava can be seen best before the sun rises as the orange color of the lava usually gets dimmed once the sun comes out. The second, is that large tourist groups begin ascending the volcano at 8:00am and on busy days there can be up to 400 people atop Pacaya. The third reason to go to see the sunrise is that you'll be back in Antigua by 9:30am with plenty of time to catch other shuttles or spend the day discovering Antigua.

What To Expect
Parque Nacional Volcan De Pacaya
Pacaya is the most active Volcano in Guatemala. It boasts beautiful rivers of lava which can be seen year-round, weather permitting. These rivers of lava are best seen before the sun rises. Once atop Pacaya we'll roast marshmallows in the lava and have a cup of hot chocolate / coffee where we'll enjoy a stellar view of Volcan de Agua, Volcan de Fuego and Volcan Acatenango. We'll spend about 45 minutes at the top and then begin our descent, which usually takes about an hour. On our way back into Antigua we'll pass by Zone 0, which what we now call the area that got devastated by Volcan de Fuego's eruption back in June 2018. The group will be back in Antigua at around 9:30am.

1.00My partner and I built our trip to Antigua around the morning Volcano hike booked through El CA Express via TripAdvisor. We saved the hike for our last day as we wanted our final day in the city to be memorable. 12 hours before the scheduled pick up time, they still had not reached out to us to confirm the pickup location. As we were on the phone waiting our turn after putting in our confirmation number, we received an email that our reservation had been canceled with no explanation or offer to rebook - no communication at all. Be warned — the El CA Express company is not reliable and may cancel on a moments notice (literally).

5.00This was an unbelievable day! We started at 4:30 am departing from Antigua to make it to the Pacaya Volcano summit by sunrise. The bus was aesthetically beautiful, extremely comfortable and fostered a very friendly environment with a bunch of other 30-somethings onboard. Not too mention, there were snacks and wifi included. The best part of it all was the tremendous knowledge the tour operator, Piero, had. Climbing up the volcano with him was like being in a NATGEO show, he knew everything and extremely helpful. I would recommend this tour to anybody looking for memorable experiences while in Guatemala.
