Join us on this fully guided, small group day tour from Queenstown to the world-renowned Milford Sound; the crowning jewel of Fiordland.

Description

Highlights of the drive include Lake Wakatipu, Devil’s Staircase, the truly majestic mountains of Fiordland, Mirror Lake, Lake Gunn and Homer Tunnel, with multiple stops along the way for photo opportunities and Kea bird spotting (the world’s largest alpine parrot).

We then travel through the mind-blowing Homer Tunnel, emerging as the valley descends sharply down to Milford Sound, with its hundreds of waterfalls cascading into crystal clear waters.

With Cruise Milford (the No. 1 Cruise in Miflord Sound), you’ll be travelling on a smaller boat, which is less crowded and where the crew offer a much more informative and personal tour of Milford Sound. You’ll be getting close to New Zealand fur seals basking on the rocks, massive rock faces rising for hundreds of metres out of the sea and see waterfalls cascade from ancient rainforest high in the mountains.

At the end of the day your guide will drop you at the Glenorchy Air Base for your return, scenic flight back from Milford to Queenstown for the ultimate birds eye view of this stunning region.

Such an amazing day! The drive was beautiful and there were plenty of chances to stop and take pictures. Our guide/driver, Jacob was great. The provide lunch was also very good. The boat tour was also a success. Though it was windy, we were able to stay on the top deck and fully enjoy the whole experience. We opted to fly back which gave an unmatched view of the mountains and lakes. 10 out of 10 experience.

    1. We watched a few dozen "wonders of New Zealand" videos. They mostly show Milford Sound with hundreds of waterfalls in misty weather. Our day was a very "nice" sunny day. To our disappointment, there were only 2 major waterfalls. All other travelers on the same bus were commenting "amazing", "wonderful". We were looking at each other like "hah?!" Before the 14-day trip to New Zealand, I would say Milford Sound was my #1 most exciting tour. Now, it can only be probably 3. 2. The flight back, to me was breathtakingly scenic. When we flew by the tallest mountain in Fjordlands, I almost touched the snow cap. However, it ascends 10,000 ft in 1 minute, my wife's heart almost gave out. She had severe nausea and could not enjoy it at all. It's not the problem of the tour. But keep this in mind when booking this. 3. The bus ride there went through Mirror Lake, Eglington Valley, Homer Tunnel and Hundred Falls view point. I wish it were a rainy day with real hundred falls. But there was none on that fateful sunny day. Sigh...

  • Absolutely Amazing Milford Sound Experience – A Must-Do from Queenstown

We had an absolutely amazing Milford Sound tour from Queenstown, and it was truly one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip. From start to finish, everything was extremely well organized and enjoyable. Our guide, Kristina (with a K), was fantastic — very knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. She did an excellent job explaining all the scenic spots and landmarks along the way between Queenstown and Milford Sound, sharing interesting insights that made the journey both informative and enjoyable. The Mercedes 16 seater minibus was very comfortable, and the lunch provided was excellent, honestly one of the best lunches we’ve had on a guided tour. Even though it was a bright, sunny day, we were still lucky enough to see plenty of waterfalls, which made the scenery even more spectacular. The Milford Sound cruise itself was absolutely breathtaking and exceeded all expectations. On the return journey, we opted for the scenic flight experience, which was the perfect way to end the day — the views were incredible and truly unforgettable. Overall, this tour was outstanding and is a must-do for anyone visiting Queenstown. Highly recommended.

My husband and I really enjoyed our minibus/cruise/minibus tour of Milford Sound yesterday with Danny from Cheeky Kiwi Tours. From the moment that we were picked up in the morning, we knew we were in capable hands. The tour was so well-organized and Cheeky Kiwi had thought of everything to make our experience an enjoyable one- including squeegees to wipe the condensation from the minibus windows so we could see the scenery outside, to a really tasty picnic lunch catering for our dietary requirements. Danny made the tour itself a very relaxed experience. He demonstrated an extensive knowledge of the local area and of the local culture. Danny showed genuine interest in learning more about his guests and what had brought them to Queenstown. He delivered the tour in a professional and punctual manner with good-humour and an authentic appreciation of the magic of the South Island of NZ. Danny also tried his hardest to get us on a flight back to Queenstown once we were at Milford Sound (our previous flight had been cancelled). The scenery on the way to Milford is next level spectacular and awe-inspiring. We were allowed plenty of time to stop and really take in the scenery at each of the photo spots. We were blessed with sunshine and blue skies which made our cruise in the fjord a really enjoyable experience. Danny also played scenery-appropriate music at different stages of the tour which added to the whole experience. Thank you to Danny and Cheeky Kiwi Tours for a memorable experience. Liza and Brendan

Tutor guide was Raghav. Extremely polite and helpful. Well aware of the facts and gave us lot of info enroute. We made so many stops so we could maximise on sightseeing. It made the overall experience memorable for us. Unfortunately our return flight got cancelled due to bad weather but then an amazing experience over all.
