What To Expect
Castle Combe
The day begins in Castle Combe, which is surely one of the most photographed villages in all of England. Little has changed here since the 15th century - no street lights or TV aerials. This mediaeval gem is famous for its picturesque cottages and babbling brook. Nestled in a wooded Cotswold valley, Castle Combe has been a favourite Hollywood filming location over the years for movies including War Horse, Stardust and Doctor Dolittle.

Cirencester is a vibrant town in the heart of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Beauty and affectionately known as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds. Founded by the Romans, a powerful Abbey in the Middle Ages, and a thriving market town for centuries ever since. Explore the many independent stores, colourful lanes and impressive church.

5.00We did a full day private Cotswolds tour with Matt, the guide and owner of Galahad Tours. We couldn’t have been more pleased with how everything was arranged. The Mercedes minivan was modern and very comfortable, the pickup was perfectly on time, and the itinerary was clear from the start. Matt combined professionalism with a genuinely friendly approach. He is one of the best guides we’ve ever had. A former journalist (or maybe still one ), his ability to present history and facts goes far beyond standard guiding. Matt is a true storyteller—highly educated, insightful, and a very warm person. He clearly cares deeply about both the places he shows and the people who live there. This tour, without any exaggeration, is a real gem and worth every penny. We spent a wonderful day in the Cotswolds. The villages and towns are so picturesque and full of history that we could easily have spent an entire week there

5.00My husband and I fulfilled our bucket list with this private tour to the Cotswolds. We could not have imagined a more charming, knowledgable and endearing tour guide as we had with Matt at the helm. A pick up from our hotel in Bath, his warm and humorous personality came through in the comfort of his luxury van. We drove through the magical towns, stopped to walk around ,and enjoyed a delicious lunch in a local pub all while being educated about the history of this extraordinary part of the UK. Matt has a wealth of knowledge about these parts and could answer all of our questions. We happened to be there on November 11 , Remembrance Day, to mark the end of WW1, so ceremonies and moments of silence were acknowledged. Very touching. As Americans I felt we knew so little of the history of this great land and Matt made our awareness a joy to learn. We will definitely be back to experience his other tours. Thanks again Matt. 5.00Matthias picked us up early morning (8 am) on a day full of sunshine and blue skies. His new Mercedes van was the perfect way to see this beautiful region of the Cotswolds and his expert driving down narrow roads lined with tall hedgerows was much appreciated. Matt’s knowledge of this area ( we visited 5 villages over the 8.5 hours) was extensive and he brought to life the histories and stories of this fabled English countryside. We stopped for lunch at a perfect pub and later in day he dropped us at a footpath so we could experience the lovely experience of strolling on a footpath ( about 20 minutes) along a stream and grazing sheep from upper Slaughter to Lower, meeting us at other end. He had us home at hotel safe and sound in time for my husband and I to sit down for dinner together and discuss how fabulous the day had been. One to be remembered! We have travelled and toured many places from Cairo to Amsterdam and we rank this day among the very best. If ‘The Cotswolds’ is on your bucket list, we cannot recommend Matthias more. It was perfect. Thanks Matt!

5.00This is the 2nd day of 3 all day tours my husband and I had with Mattias. Our guide Matthias picked us up in a very comfortable lovely vehicle. He had water for us, and did a fantastic job explaining history and ownership of the Cotswolds. Walking into this area is like entering a fairytale. Mattias took us around villages and to beautiful picturesque settings. He then took us to a centuries old restaurant for lunch. That was quite lovely. We had a very enjoyable day and really appreciated the experience with Mattias.

5.00In May we did three day tours of the Cotswolds, Wales and the third day a custom tour with Matthias that was amazing. Matthias was so accommodating and enjoyable to be with as he drive us all around the showing us the sights and supplying background information we never knew about. I can’t say enough about him from all our questions he answered leading up to booking of the tours, to him coming to pick us up in his perfectly clean Mercedes minivan from our Narrow Boat in Bradford on Avon to him taking us all around southern England and Wales for three days. He is so knowledgeable of the sights and just a pleasure to be chitchatting with. We would happily book him again.

5.00We had a wonderful tour with Matt from Galahad Tours. He picked us up early at our hotel in Bath and we spent the whole day discovering the Cotswolds. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He took us to the most charming villages even some that were off the beaten path. The tour also included a great lunch in a local restaurant. The day went by really fast thanks to his great stories of the local history and his obvious passion for the region. He customized the tour to our interests and preferences. He even made recommendations for restaurants in Bath when we came back. I would highly recommend using his services for any tour you are considering in the area. You will not regret it!

5.00Just back from an incredible day with Matthias. If you’re considering whether to book a private tour or go on a larger group tour, I’d encourage you to spend the little bit extra to book the private tour as the level of attention, ability to access some of the smaller villages, and depth of knowledge is unparalleled. We have traveled as a group of friends in many countries and taken lots of tours and this is easily near the top if not the best we’ve had. It was a gorgeous day, Matthias had great recommendations, including the spot he chose for us for lunch. Highly recommend this of any tour he’s offering. Have fun!

5.00We had a brilliant day with Matt - this was definitely the highlight of our trip to Bath. Matt is incredibly knowledgeable and also has a genuine curiousity about people which makes for a terrific tour guide. We thought the tour had a brilliant balance of beautiful sights, historical areas and a bit of time for us to explore by ourselves. The best part was the walk from Upper to Lower Slaughter.
