What To Expect
DMZ
Before we go into DMZ area and do ID Check, will look through 3 stops - Brdige of freedom, Mangbaedan Altar, Steam locomotive destroyed during Korean war in Imjingak Park. Imjingak was built in 1972 for the benefit of displaced North Koreans. It is at the end of National Road No. 1, which civilians can access.
Mangbaedan is an altar where North Korean refugees in the South hold ancestral rites on the two biggest national holidays to their parents and grandparents left behind in the North.

2.00There is no North Korean Defector meeting of any kind. Despite leading with “Meet a NK Defector” in both the tour title and description, no meeting was ever planned into this itinerary. When I became concerned that time was running short and asked when the meeting would occur, our tour guide called his scheduling POC who informed us that a NK Defector meeting was a separate option that we had not selected. I immediately reviewed my reservation with our guide and confirmed that there was no option to opt-in or opt-out of a NK Defector meeting at any point. Yet, “Meet a NK Defector” remained the most prominent tour description on every page. Such a mismatch is not miscommunication nor simply misleading advertising - it is dishonesty. For me, it is also unrecoverable opportunity lost in a travel schedule planned in advance. It is hard to rate an experience that omitted 50% of the reason I booked it any higher than one star, though I give it two out of deference to our tour guide himself who was excellent, and whom I consider a victim of poor association with a dishonest tour organizer.

5.00Won was a great tour guide! He messaged the day prior to coordinate plans and picked us up on time right from our hotel. We learned so much about Korea on our drive to the DMZ and enjoyed talking with Won. We met up with a larger group at the DMZ tour so we could listen to the story of a defector which was really incredible to hear. The 3rd tunnel was wild to see, a bit eerie but a fascinating experience. We loved that Won got plenty of pictures for us. We did the buffet lunch at the unification village which was delicious. The suspension bridge over the lake after the DMZ tour was pretty and a nice place to stretch our legs. Overall a wonderful way to spend a day in South Korea.

5.00Tiger was our driver and guide. His experience in the service to S. Korea provided insight and experience that exponentially changed the tour. He provided images, stories and answered every possible question all while providing a safe and enjoyable ride. I would highly recommend this tour and would hope you have Tiger as your guide through the history of the Korean War with the perspective of someone that experienced the DMZ personally.
