Amazing, very informative guides, I learned a lot about vodoo, the python temples, the sad stories about the slavery at the gate of no return, I really recommend this tour !

  • A decent option to see a lot in a short amount of time

A good trip overall, though felt surface level and expensive for what it was. The gem is Ganvie, which is a really fascinating place. Ouidah has potential as a destination, though there’s not much to see as many things are under construction. The Cotonou part of the trip is underdeveloped, and I needed to ask in order to see all the things on the itinerary. All in all, it’s a fair option to get a taste of key sites in Benin, though I wish I could give it a stronger endorsement.

We arrived Conotou, Benin by cruise ship and had one day to learn about and experience this fascinating people and culture. Our guide, Abdoul, met us at the pier, as planned and proceeded with a slightly customized tour based on our interests. Excellent driver and AC car for the entire day ( the driving is crazy in Conotou!) We started with a stop at Amazon Plaza statue, followed by a wander through the largest open-air market in Africa. Off to Ganvie to experience the fish market and a boat tour of this fascinating stilted lake fishing community. Then we went off to Ouida, the Vatican of Voodoo religion and learned about this most practiced religion in Benin and all of Africa. Our final stop was the slave fort and trading area of Ouida following the long chained march to the sea. We wrapped up with an easy drive back to Conotou along the brand new beach highway. Mostly, our day was elevated by Abdoul who is informative, charming, fun and an excellent guide. We were hesitant about getting off the ship in Conotou, but grateful we found this tour and Abdoul.

  • Excellent Action Packed Day

Very correctly executed, perfect day for a Quick Look at Cotonou and Ouidah. I do think the price is on the high end, but in a pinch, you'll get a lot of value out of this if you are more than one person. As a solo traveler, you may be better off taking Gozem or hiring a taxi for the day. I don't speak French so this was perfect for me.

The tour is fast-paced but very enjoyable and exhaustive. Kader was a thoughtful, well-informed, and communicative guide and everything went as described online. I would definitely recommend this tour to travelers passing briefly through Benin.

  • great introduction to Benin

As it happens so often, I had the guide, Kader, all to myself. I had booked the tour with an English speaking guide as my French is sadly not (yet) good enough for this, which was a good idea as there were sooo many stories and details he explained (and patiently answered my many questions). I was picked up from my hotel, and we started with a couple of monuments, 'the wall' (you will see what I mean when in Cotonou, it's near impossible to miss) and the market in Cotonou, and then drove over to Ouidah for the temple of the python, the route des esclaves and the sacred forest. We also had a (quick) lunch stop. Afterwards we headed over to Ganvie, which for me was probably the loveliest experience - a relaxing boat ride to, and through, the village. This was my only tour (and I sincerely hope I will be back soon), and I think it's a perfect introduction to the culture and places of the South of Benin.
