Kapilvastu - Tilaurakot is the capital of the Shakya Kingdom about 25 kilometers west of Lumbini that extends over an area of two and half miles. Tilaurakot is the exact site of ancient Kapilvastu due to its general consonance of local bearings and geographical conditions as described in the Buddhist texts and travel accounts of Chinese pilgrims.

What an amazing experience! Our tour guide was incredibly friendly and knowledgable about Buddhist history. We visited the birthplace of Buddha, the ruins of the palace where he had lived as a prince, and seven other temples that had been built by countries around the world. It was amazing to see such a variety of styles of Buddhist temple. Our guide actually added an extra one not in our itinerary because it was his favorite -- and indeed it was our favorite too, very beautiful! He was very responsive, giving us time to meditate when we wished, information when we wanted information, and time with each other when we wanted that. 100% recommend, do not miss!
