We did this private whale watching excursion while in Puerto Vallarta as part of a cruise stop. I want to be clear that through no fault of the tour operator, the walk from the cruise port to the meeting point was pretty brutal — busy sidewalk, lots of traffic, and longer than expected. We walked there and back, and in hindsight, a short cab ride would have been the way to go. We did end up waiting a bit longer than planned for pickup, but once we were on the boat and headed out, it was absolutely worth it. It was a short ride before we started seeing whales, and we saw quite a few. We were able to get some really great photos, which made the whole experience even better. The whales we saw were fin whales, which I had never seen before, so that alone made the excursion really special for me. Overall, despite a few logistical hiccups, we truly enjoyed our day and were really glad we did this experience.

Traveo Vallarta or Viento Negro Tours (I no longer know which company was responsible) with a dismal service. They came by us 40 minutes late and you talked 4 times on the phone to find out what was going on. When I spoke to the company they told me they were waiting for us at another location. It was my mistake. When Manuel (the boatman) arrived I asked him and he told me that he had just been warned to come for us. He was very friendly and treated us very well and made a good tour. But: I had hired a private tour in English and Manuel did not speak English. He didn't bring water on the boat to give us. They charged me like I was a yacht with a bath and gave us a little boat. We didn't get an apology from the company, compensation or anything. Really lousy service! I don't hire them again.

My children and I arrived at the meeting point at 10am. The boat did not arrive until after 11am. We waited for over an hour at the dock. If it were not for the poor communication prior to the boat arriving, I would have given the tour 5 stars. Captain Luis apologized for being late. He was very kind and controlled the boat very well since the waters were a bit choppy. We saw whales, many dolphins and sea turtles. Luis offered to take us to Los Arcos also. But we decided to head back because I got seasick. My kids had a wonderful time.

A beautiful and enjoyable time on the water. As are timelines in Mexico, we left a little late. Asked if there was drinking water on the boat and they went to get some for us. The boat operator was excellent. He took it easy as we had our six-year old on board. We saw several whales. Had an excellent morning.

We had a great time on this experience. We were glad to learn that there was a cover on the boat so we were not in full sun all day. Our captain helped us find lots of whales!
