The word Pile is derived from the Greek pilai which means door from which we can conclude that for centuries Pile gate has been (and still is) the main entrance to the city.
Rector's Palace
Built in the late 15th century for the elected rector who governed Dubrovnik, this Gothic-Renaissance palace contains the rector’s office and private chambers, public halls, administrative offices and a dungeon.

5.00Please don’t pass up this incredible, culturally rich experience in Montenegro. We had an unexpected delay when our cruise ship made a last-minute stop to help a medically distressed passenger, which pushed our arrival into port back significantly. Despite the sudden change, the communication with the tour company was kind, flexible, and incredibly patient. They stayed in touch frequently and adjusted plans smoothly, which we truly appreciated. We were blown away by the hospitality and the depth of local culture shared with us. The food in Montenegro is absolutely amazing — and the locally cured hams are unforgettable! You can truly taste the tradition and care that goes into them. Kotor itself is a gem — historically rich, breathtakingly beautiful, and full of character. We were left wanting more and are already dreaming about returning to explore even deeper. Highly recommend this tour and this company — they go above and beyond to make your visit to Montenegro something truly special.

5.00Barbara was a brilliant guide for our Dubrovnik walking tour - we learnt so much about not only the city itself, but also about daily life which was fascinating. Barbara was so lovely and engaging and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. Topped off a fabulous tour with a drink at a lovely cafe. The tour itself is mainly on the flat so no issues with too many steps!! Would definitely recommend.
