St Oswald's Church
Our tour starts with a drive to Grasmere Village. Here you will see St Oswald's Church and the Wordsworth family graves which are one of the most visited places in the Lake District. Grasmere is also the name of a lake just outside the village itself. 'The loveliest spot that man hath ever found' is how Wordsworth described this most beautiful area of the Lake District. The small island in the middle of the lake was a favourite place which he often visited while he was living at Dove Cottage.
Allan Bank
Wordsworth's family quickly expanded, with the arrival of three children in four years, and so they left Dove Cottage in 1808 to seek larger lodgings at Allan Bank on a hill overlooking the village. We will get to see this from the outside.

This tour did a great job of combining information about the lives of William and Dorothy Wordsworth with visit to the scenic places that were the basis for Wordsworth's poetry. I mention Dorothy as well as William because Gillian, our guide, made numerous references to Dorothy's journal to provide insight as to what they were thinking and doing when Wordsworth wrote his great poetry (with her support). Seeing the areas that inspired Wordsworth was wonderful because, even if one were uninterested in Wordsworth's poetry, the landscape is beautiful and unspoiled. This tour was a wonderful experience.

I walked around Grasmere one night looking at the antique shops and restaurants that were inside some of these bed & breakfasts hotels with smoke coming out from their fireplaces . This is a Very Cozy little village . I loved it a lot . Its so Peaceful and quiet with all its country Smells .
