We had the most incredible day exploring the Dominican Republic thanks to our amazing tour guide, Barney! From the moment we met him, his energy, knowledge, and genuine passion for his country made the whole experience unforgettable. Barney showed us around the city with fascinating stories and local insights you’d never get on your own. One of the absolute highlights was visiting the monkeys — such a fun and unique experience! He made sure everything ran smoothly and gave us plenty of time to enjoy every moment. He then took us to a beautiful beach where we could relax and take in the stunning scenery. Barney knew all the best spots and made the whole day feel effortless and special. If you’re visiting the Dominican Republic and want a guide who is friendly, knowledgeable, and truly cares about giving you the best experience possible, Barney is the person to choose. He went above and beyond to make our trip fun and memorable, we couldn’t recommend him more highly. Thank you, Barney and your daughter Ju for an unforgettable day!

Barney and Gearson… where to begin, the experience was phenomenal. Gearson was amazing and very informative in our tour of city. We started our morning with horseback riding and followed that with a city tour - cigar factory, jewelry shopping, sightseeing. We were offered water and soda during our trip. Gearson carried our backs while we shopped and just made us feel like we were apart of the Dominican Republic family. Highly recommended and will use them when we come back.

We were a party of four women over the age of 60 years. We found Barney on our Cruise FB page. We researched and decides to book the private tour. The instructions Barney gave us were easy to follow and he was where he said would be, when he said he would be there. He introduced our driver and guide and we climbed aboard the bus and started our adventure. Water, and soda were offered and served, as well as a sample of The Dominican Republic's famous Mamajuana! Our guides were informative, friendly, and accommodating. They carried our bags, took pictures of our group, and assisted us as needed. We felt safe the entire time. There are police on all corners. And throngs of people! We visited the Amber Factory, quite informative! We bought jewelry made of Amber, and Larimer. Stunning designs! We also visited the cocoa and coffee factory where we sampled coffee, chocolate, hot cocoa, and a few wines. We were also treated to samples of skin care that is made from cocoa and coconut, and coffee. The safari bus trip up the mountain to see The Christ statue was amazing! Beautiful views, Interesting scenery. Cows, donkeys, chickens, banana trees, plantain trees, avocado trees. The views from the top are stunning! Breathtaking! Once we came down the mountain we visited Pink Street and Umbrella Street, and The City Plaza. We were going to have lunch but us ladies had spent too much time shopping and the guide wanted to be sure we were back on the ship in time. Which we were. However, one of us said we wanted to try a fresh banana. Next thing we know we had pulled off the road and our guide, Paulino, jumped out and ran up to a local fruit stand and bought us all bananas for us to try! All in all this was the best excursion I've done in a long time! Do not be afraid to try them out! *Caution: Prices are not shown for anything. They want you to put everything you'd like to purchase in a bucket and then make a 'package deal'. If I go back to Amber Cove again I would do this excursion again!

Barney and Paulito did an excellent job of making us feel welcome to DR. Initial contact with Barney was fast and full of necessary information about the tour and the cost. We booked d paid a deposit ahead of time which made it easier. Our cruise itinerary was hanged at the last minute but Barney accommodated us nevertheless. There were four of us seniors with some mobility challenges and Paulito was so helpful. They asked what was important to us to see and we saw everything we wanted. The walk from the ship to the tour van was a bit of a hike for seniors due to the layout of the cruise terminal. It was a great day and we felt like we made some new friends.

We had an amazing experience with Barney DAT Tours during our stop in Puerto Plata (Amber Cove). We were traveling as a group of 8 and asked for a private tour — Barney made it happen effortlessly! Our guide, Paulino, was absolutely fantastic. He went above and beyond to make sure we experienced the real local culture, not just the typical tourist spots. Monkey Home was fun and very informative — definitely a highlight. What really made the day special were the personal touches. We mentioned wanting to try local bananas, and Paulino pulled over at a roadside stand and bought some for us. They tasted nothing like the bananas we buy in the U.S. — so much sweeter and fresher! He also stopped for fresh coconuts. After we drank the coconut water, someone opened them so we could taste the coconut meat. And the best surprise? Paulino picked a mango straight from a tree for me — it was hands down one of the best mangoes I’ve ever had! The city tour was great as well. We had time to shop and learned about the history of amber in the area, which was really interesting. If you’re visiting Puerto Plata, I highly recommend booking with Barney DAT Tours and requesting Paulino. The experience felt authentic, personal, and unforgettable!

We stopped in Puerto Plata on our cruise and booked a day with Barney — and we’re so glad we did! We started with an exciting buggy tour, which was such a fun way to see the area and add a little adventure to the day. After that, Barney took us into the city for a tour on foot, where we were able to experience the local culture, see some beautiful spots, and learn more about the history and daily life in Puerto Plata. Throughout the entire day, Barney made us feel safe, welcome, and well taken care of. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and organized, while still keeping everything relaxed and enjoyable. We never felt rushed and truly felt like we were getting an authentic experience. If you’re visiting Puerto Plata and looking for a trustworthy and professional guide, we highly recommend Barney. He helped make our stop unforgettable!

We used Barney for our private tour in Puerto Plata while in a cruise. Elvin was our actual guide. Barney was fantastic and super responsive. Elvin was great and took us around to do all the things we wanted to do. No set itinerary or schedule. We told him a few things we wanted to do and he suggested other stuff too and it turned out to be a really wonderful experience. We will definitely use Barney again when we come back to Puerto Plata.

Barney was so Amazing, he responded to my message quickly with pictures and information that made me feel completely at ease in booking my excursion with him. We visited the Monkey sanctuary, saw the cacao and tasted wonderful coffee and hot chocolate, saw the tobacco being made into cigars. We visited Puerto Plata and walked around. We had a great tour and we had a Fantastic time. Our vehicle was air conditioned which was a huge bonus considering the heat that day! Highly Recommend booking with Barney!
