This is the only place in the world where you can ride a horse on an active volcano and the lava beds. Also, sip wine as your chef cooks you Mayan cuisine on the lava itself. We are also the Horse Rescue of Guatemala and manage 125 working tour horses for medical, food and shelter. One working Tour horse supports a family of 7-10 people. All the profits of this experience benefit the 125 horses and the 250 families of Pacaya Volcano.

What To Expect
Luxury!!!! Adventure Horseback at Pacaya Volcano- relaxing ride at a slow pace up the volcano or a more adventurous gallop through the lava beds, coffee plantations and local villages. Ride your horse to your lava table where we prepare pizza cooked over hot lava coals. Stop your horse at the local village and have a beverage/beer at the local tienda (store). Ride to the location where the lava terminated in the eruption 3 years ago. Horseback through the lava beds is an almost extraterrestrial ride! This is a once in a lifetime experience on an active volcano. The profits of this ride go to support the horses and families of Pacaya Volcano. Includes INGUAT certified guides, cowboy guides, private chef and a mind blowing experience. This is a private tour on an exclusive plantation at the base of Pacaya Volcano. Fabulous for groups, families or Romantic Tour.

5.00From start to finish this was the PERFECT tour! Communication from the second I booked was excellent. Our guide, Dave, was so friendly and informative. Just a really chill, laid back guy who wanted to make sure we had the best time possible. THe drive to the base of the volcano was a bit long, but Dave made it go by fast. Once at the base we were familiarized with out guides and horses and started our beautiful trek up the volcano. Once we got as close as we could to the top we were able to peruse the giftshop, with goods made from volcanic ash. Super unique souvenirs! Dave took our pizza order and in a short time we were set up with beer, liquor made from oranges and pumpkins seeds (also super unique) and piping hot pizza made on top of hot lava coals. The pizza was absolutely delicious and what we didn't finish we paid in pizza tax to the volcano dogs. Dave had a name for every one of them. We also had fire roasted smores with spicy chocolate for dessert! Our ride back to the cruise port was long due to construction, but they made sure we made it back with plenty of time. I can't recommend this tour enough. It was a bucket list experience we didn't even know was on our bucket list! Also tip your guides well. They walk up a VERY steep volcano while keeping pace with your horses and taking your photos the whole time!!!

5.00This experience was amazing. First our guide “Manuel” picked us up directly off our cruise ship. This is a private tour so it was just us for the hour long drive up to the base camp below the volcano. We’re joined by Jimmy and another cowboy to guide us up the mountain. The horses were awesome and well training my favorite was “fuego” the ride up the mountain was amazing and we got to the lava field that is only 4 years old ( this volcano erupts about every 10 years. We had pizza cooked from the heat of the volcano and s’mores. Plenty of time spent to relax, eat and take pictures. We had plenty of time to enjoy the drive and the ride up and back from the mountain with plenty of time to get back to our cruise ship on time. This experience is run by soul shine Guatemala. Also know as Guatemala horse tours. A non profit that rescues wild horses and pairs them with locals so they can be taken care of and generate revenue to feed family’s in PACAYA.
