Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way. When crowded conditions warrant, Pure Adventure will provide extra guides for your safety.
Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary from minimal no very bright suddenly.
In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills
Our offices are closed on SUNDAYS - Reservations made Saturday after 5 pm will not be revised until Monday at 9 am. For cancellations request during this time please send us a message through Viator.
SPECIAL NOTE: We encourage our guests to not reserve the tour on the same day of arrival to the Island. If the FLIGHT or FERRY is delayed and the guest misses the tour the guest will not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling.
TOUR TIME might change depending on sunset time. If so we will send a reminder for updated meeting time.
This tour takes place in the water. Expect to get completely wet. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. We recommend to bring a change of clothes and towel for after the trip.
Tour is not canceled in rainy days. We will get wet anyways ;)
It is the guest responsibility to read and comply with health and weight requirements. Ignorance of the requirements is not accepted as an excuse.
There are public bathrooms on-site, but they are not always in good condition. You may consider stopping in fast food before getting to the meeting site or using the bathrooms from the nearby stores/restaurants which are sometimes available.
Certain time of the year great amounts of sargassum (seaweed) arrive to our coasts. This can make paddling to feel like a workout. Also the natural decomposition odor might be unpleasant.

Great time. I liked that even though the bioluminescence was low, they let you see under a tarp so you get to still experience it. Wonderful experience going through the mangroves at night. We loved it!

This was an awesome experience! We are a group girls looking to have a good experience and we had just that! Javier gave a good introduction with some humor sprinkled in! Eli gave an amazing explanation of the bioluminescence and of the astronomy in the sky! The bioluminescence was not very bright and they gave us a message before hand that was the case due to it being a natural phenomenon. They brought a tarp so we could still see some of the sparks of it and really helped to give us the experience! They also offered snacks and drinks at the end!! Javier offered to take some photos of us at sunset and he put his full effort into it!! We couldn’t be happier with our experience!

Excellent guided tour. Experienced guides, friendly, managed a large group of novice kayakers well. Equipment was adequate and guides went beyond other outfits to maximize viewing of bioluminescence which was appreciated.

Very enjoyable experience! Very reasonable rate, took around 2 hours. Crowd size was manageable, and it was a beautiful location. Unfortunately, we couldn't see much of bioluminescence, though the tour guides MORE than made up for that. They kept everyone interested with information on the plankton, local history, and astronomy! Eli really had so much knowledge about the constellations that I found incredibly interesting. Overall, Amaury, Yadiel, Eli, and Catalina did amazing, and I would definitely recommend their tours.

It was a beautiful, peaceful evening. Fun to experience the dusk and dark in a kayak. The bioluminescence was minimal but we were glad to be able to see a little biit of it.

Very cool experience, especially for our kids. We went at the early time and they had to use a tarp to really make the color pop, but we could see it without on our way back. Experienced differ every night, but it was not the large pool of blue like in the pictures and was more like flakes of color popping in the water. It was still really cool, but temper your expectations. The staff was awesome, did a great job helping those that needed it, and were educational about what we were seeing along the way. Listening to their instructions makes it clear they have seen some s*** over the years from guests, rather humorous! There are a lot of tour companies that do this tour, but they were the first on the water and our to the site so you had extra time to acclimate and hang out, which was a plus. There are restaurants in the same spot as the tour, so grab a bite before or after, it was great.
