What makes this experience so special is that you don’t just watch—you live it. From the moment you arrive in the small mountain village near Mt. Batukaru, you become part of Balinese life. You’ll stroll through the rice terraces, meet the farmers, and pick fresh herbs straight from the garden. In our Paon Bali, the open-air kitchen, you’ll learn how to prepare authentic meals and ancient Jamus—the healthy power drinks of the Balinese.
The sounds of nature and the rhythm of traditional music surround you while cooking, laughing, and sharing stories with the family. After enjoying your homemade lunch, you can even try planting rice, feed our cow “Manis,” or discover the stingless bees and their rare honey. Every moment feels real and personal—a genuine connection to Bali’s culture, traditions, and the warmth of its people.

Pick up and scenic drive through the tropical landscape with a photo stop on the way. Arrive at the mountain village, and take a leisurely walk. Start with an introduction to the Rindik, the Balinese instrument. Enjoy a guided tour through the herb & spice garden with over 40 varieties of plants. At the Jamu Pavilion, craft and taste 2 types of Jamu, Indonesia's ancient and powerful health drink. Move to Paon Bali, the open-air Bali kitchen, and learn to cook an authentic Balinese meal with guidance from our chef. You will have a lot of fun together, especially at the live bamboo grill station when preparing Sate Lilit. You also learn how to make Lak Lak—the yummy dessert—by using a traditional clay pot. Savor a delightful lunch and the tranquillity of the village life and nature. After lunch you'll have enough power to give the farmer a helping hand to assist with planting rice. On your return, stroll through the picturesque village with mountain views, chat with locals, and visit a traditional house to learn about the authentic Asta Kosala architecture, influenced by Balinese Feng Shui. End the day at the sacred Belulang hot spring before heading back to your hotel.

It was a really very nice day and we really had a lot of fun. We had actually booked a cleaning certificate, but since our guide got sick the tour was merged with another couple and we had cooking class and cleaning certificate. It couldn't have been better. We definitely recommend it:)

Everything was just perfect! We were warmly welcomed and felt immediately at ease. The accommodation is cozy and very well maintained. The cooking class was delicious and educational, and the spiritual purification a special, unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

A great day in the village! We made drinks, cooked them and had another cleaning ceremony. We learned a lot about the way of life and the plants in Bali. Highly recommended to learn something away from the big tourism!

We tested this experience with the family and we are delighted. The atmosphere is friendly and everyone actively participates in the preparation of dishes. We recommend this activity (requires to speak and understand at least English)

We would recommend this small excursion to anyone who wants to experience an authentic Bali. The views around the village were magical, the rice fields are really fantastic! The cooking class itself with the Balikaru Family had been a very warm, fun and very positive experience. Not only did we learn to cook Balinese, we could taste everything, but we enjoyed the company of the wonderful family. It was definitely the highlight of the whole Bali trip! Thank you very much Balikaru Family for this special great day with you!

A very enjoyable trip with a competent guide. The cooking was an inspiring experience. Afterwards, we went to the sacred springs and attended a purification ceremony. All new experiences. Thank you for the meeting.

The Balikaru team is incredibly nice and warm. Already at the welcome you immediately feel that you are welcome and welcome. Cooking together was a lot of fun and it was so interesting to meet completely new people. There were five of us and we met a couple from Lithuania. That was a really nice morning and we even learned to cook Balinese. This sounds very touristy and it is, but we take so many beautiful memories and impressions with us that we can only recommend it.
