We love food tours and this one did not disappoint. The first stop, Los Olivos, included a cheese crisp, a dish I have looked for and have never found or have been able to recreate. Chris was so knowledgeable about how the dish was made. Two days later we returned to that restaurant for another excellent meal. Another highlight was the chocolate malt. I didn’t think I liked malts but Chris explained what made the Sugar Bowl’s so good. It was a revelation!

Our guide, Christopher, gave us a great introduction to Scottsdale’s history as well as arranged several yummy food tastings. We covered quite a lot of ground - about 2 miles total - starting at the Little Red Schoolhouse and ending at the Bronze Horse Fountain. Wear comfortable shoes and perhaps, skip breakfast to savor all the food tastings. My favorite three stops included the Frybread Lounge, Los Olivos, and the Sugar Bowl. At the Frybread Lounge, the only Native-owned restaurant in town, we sampled Indian frybread, topped with honey, jam, or hummus - delicious! We also tried the Three Sisters Salad, which highlights the three staples of Native cuisine - corn, beans, and squash. At Los Olivos, a family-owned Mexican restaurant, we enjoyed chimichangas and green chile cheese crisps. My husband’s favorite stop was the Sugar Bowl where we were treated to an Old Dutch chocolate malt. There was something to satisfy everyone’s taste buds! Christopher also provided useful tips about other things to explore during our visit to Scottsdale which I really appreciated. It’s clear that we will return one day to fit everything in.

Very knowledgeable about the restaurants and the history of Old Town Scottsdale. Very courteous and respectful. The tour went a little later than planned (4 hours) but we enjoyed it! Outstanding food selections.

Christopher was amazing, had a wealth of knowledge about the Scottsdale area, its culture, the growth and development of the city and surrounding communities. Christopher’s knowledge of the food culture and differences between Mexican and American food preparations and ingredients was outstanding. Loved the tour.

Our only regret is that we didn’t sign up for this Tour earlier in our weeklong visit to Scottsdale. Our guide Christopher was outstanding and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area and was clearly also very passionate and eligible about food. He was a Lance or mini off the cuff questions even about things that weren’t directly related to the content of our tour. There were a few items that were unique to the Arizona food scene as well as several items that were just pretty typical and could be found many different places around the country. We had a total of about 12 people on our tour, which was maybe a little bit too many but it was still manageable. We walked a total of 6 miles during our four hour tour.

We had an amazing time on this food tour with our guide Christopher. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and you could tell that he really cared about giving a great tour. The restaurants that we tried were great and had a mixed variety of food. The 3 1/2 hours flew by. I highly recommend taking this tour. We intend to try the Phoenix food tour the next time we come back to the area.

This tour was a great experience! We should have booked it at the beginning of our stay rather than at the end! Please don't make that mistake. Chris has so much valuable information on the local food scene that we could never have known other than on this tour. We check reviews very closely when we travel, so I felt we were making great choices as far as food goes, but getting the scoop from a local is invaluable and we never would have known about some of the places Chris took us to. They were low key, with delicious food and really reasonably priced, unlike the majority of Scottsdale eateries. Also, it was a nice, long tour, 3 hours at least and we were not rushed in any way, which gave us time to spread out our tastings. Chris gave us a lot of history and background about the city and surrounding areas as well as stories about the local restaurants we went to and others that he recommended for future meals. The price was well worth it and I highly recommend that you experience this tour.
