What To Expect
Experience the Caribbean way of life. Go snorkeling, relax at the beach, have a swim, and enjoy some freshly grilled fish. This activity takes place at Donkey beach, a rocky beach with some patches of sand. There is plenty of shade from the trees. This is where the locals hang out and celebrate birthdays with their families in the weekends. From the beach you walk straight into the crystal clear waters that are teeming with all kinds of different fish and corals. We will show you how local people use traditional fishing methods to catch fish. Then it's time to clean some fresh fish and fry them up on the grill. Of course you’re welcome to help along!

5.00It was a lot of fun learning how to snorkel fish. Frans did a great job explaining the technique and guiding us in the ocean. We didn't catch anything, but Frans did. He prepared the fish on a little BBQ, and we enjoyed eating them. Great experience, highly recommend it.

5.00What a unique experience - a must do in Bonair! Our tour guide Frans was super nice and well prepared to snorkel, drop the hook and reel in some fish. He had the perfect lay out with chairs shaded under a tree, refreshments waiting for us and even brought some extra treats just in case we didn't get anything to bite the bait when fishing (very thoughtful). A good choice for the beach entry point - the waters were calm enough to swim and the coral was only steps away from the shore. After exploring the reef and bagging a grouper and snapper, Frans cleaned the fish, prepped them, seasoned them, then dropped them in the oil pan. They were flavored and cooked so incredibly well, all we could say was YUM! And thank you of course. It was a blessing to enjoy a local beach, live fishing, friendly vibes, and a savory lunch. If you have the chance, seize the opportunity to go!

3.00France and his daughter are lovely and very welcoming. We had an amazing experience cooking the fish on the beach, and it tasted delicious. My only BIG problem with it was France never provided a life vest. Both my husband and I swam out a fair distance to the darker water and it was a bit choppy. I had to cut my experience short because I was conscious that I had to save some strength to swim back. I therefore never had the opportunity to do the fishing part. Had a life vest been provided I would have stayed out there the whole time. Whilst I didn't want to say this in a review I feel others need to be aware that you need to be a fit strong swimmer to participate. France said he did have a life vest but left it at home, not really good enough.

5.00Fun morning of snorkeling and what I call jig fishing. Franz was great showed us the ropes had the equipment. This was after he picked us up at the cruise port. 10 min drive to donkey beach. No donkeys on the beach but we saw them on the route home. Franz caught most of the fish and fried them up. Delicious fresh caught mini groupers. Great morning in Bonnairre.

5.00It's rather difficult to do but extremely fun at the same time. You should know the basics of snorkeling and floating first though. You just float and release a line with chicken as bait and wait for a grouper to latch on. Lots of different fish to look at. It was beautiful. The guide was extremely fun and friendly. The fish was amazing. I did not catch any but he did so it was amazing! Very happy with this experience.

5.00What a wonderful morning! We loved meeting Frans and his family. He was a thoughtful guide who brought everything needed for a fish cookout on a lovely stretch of Donkey Beach. We had such fun trying our hand at traditional fishing and catching a couple of little fish. Highly recommended for a memorable day of fishing, snorkeling, and kind conversation.

5.00We were super excited to learn a new method of fishing. It was so much fun to snorkel and fish with a hand line, all while you are seeing the corals and creatures below. Franz and his daughter were so welcoming. He explained everything in detail and kept checking in with you while you were in the water, which made you feel safe and was much appreciated! I can’t begin to tell you how delicious the fresh caught fish was that was cooked right there on the beach! Some of the best grouper & snapper we’ve eaten. We could have stayed there all day. Hands down, this was the best part of our trip! ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND!! 😎

5.00We had a fantastic time snorkeling and learning how to fish with a hand line. Catching our own fish and then having it fried to perfection was definitely a highlight of our trip. Hands down the best fried fish we had while on the island, can’t get any fresher and better than freshly caught grouper. Frans and his family were super welcoming and accommodating which made the whole experience even better. A great way to spend a morning in Bonaire. 1000% must do!
