During most snorkel tours one simply goes snorkeling after being given the equipment. In contrast, this is an educational snorkel tour suitable for the entire family.
The tour starts with a short PowerPoint presentation on the ecology and natural history of the area, and also covers the most common species encountered on the reef. The presentation provides an understanding of the reef and enables one to recognize the many species of fish and invertebrates encountered.
Coral growth is poorly developed in the central Gulf of California, but this tour takes place on the only reef with extensive coral growth in the region. During the snorkel tour you will be accompanied by a marine biologist that will assist you in finding and identifying the many species of fish and invertebrates on the reef.
After the snorkel tour the group reconvenes to address the observations using a variety of field guides provided, while enjoying freshly made ceviche together with a variety of refreshments.

What To Expect
NOTE: You have to be able to swim and feel comfortable doing so in the sea. 9:00-9:45am : We will meet at Hammer Heads restaurant, located in the Marina San Carlos, 0where we will start with a brief PowerPoint presentation on the natural history and ecology of the region. We will also review the most common species we will likely encounter during our snorkel. If needed, I will provide snorkel gear which we will try on to ensure a comfortable fit and that everyone is well equipped for the days activity. 9:45-10:00am : We will drive in our vehicles to the snorkel destination. 10:00-10:15am : After parking our vehicles, we will review the snorkel site and discuss our general course to be followed while snorkeling. The route will be based on the current conditions (e.g. currents, wind, visibility etc.), and the ability and snorkeling experience of the group as a whole. 10:15-11:30am: We will snorkel the area and observe the spectacular marine life the Sea of Cortez harbors. 11:30- 12:00pm: We will reconvene as a group and discus our observations from the snorkeling experience while we enjoy a freshly prepared ceviche.

Michael is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about what he does which makes the experience 100x more enjoyable and memorable. 5.00Although we got a bit murky from the weather those days, that didn't stop us from enjoying the activity, seeing fish, starfish and other animals and Mike was always very attentive and kept an eye on us. Compared to other snorkeling tours where you only go to the activity, I really liked that before heading to the beach where you would be snorkeling (less than 10 minutes from the initial meeting site) gave us a prior explanation, because that way you appreciate and make better use of the snorkeling and everything you see. The service and attention of Mike excellent, you enjoy a rich ceviche while discussing what you saw in the sea.

5.00We had an amazing time with Mike! I went with my partner and we both loved it. His passion for marine life is contagious, and he truly goes out of his way to make sure you have a relaxed, fun, and enriching experience. The snorkeling at Playa Piedras Pintas was stunning — we could see everything in great detail. And the ceviche at the end was the perfect touch. Highly recommended!

5.00Mike was an outstanding snorkeling guide. This was, by far, the most interesting and fun snorkeling excursion I’ve been on, and I’ve been all over the world. Mike started with a PowerPoint presentation explaining what we could expect to see in the waters. We all had coffee and pastries and Mike had everyone engaged and interested in his discussion. In the water, Mike seemed to find all the interesting and cool sea life and made sure we call had a peek. For those that stayed on the boat, he brought things for them to see and hold. The ceviche tostadas at the end were delicious! This was the best value excursion of all I’ve ever been on. Would HIGHLY recommend!!
