What a way to be a part of the true nature around Tromsø! The Star Walk really was an amazing experience - we had incredible views on the walk up to the view point and then came back down the mountain in the snow! We felt completely safe in the hands of our guide Virgil, who was super friendly and very experienced - thank you Virgil for making our trip so special!

Fantastic snowshoeing experience under the Northern Lights! Our lovely guide - Pol - made sure that everybody quickly felt at ease and had a nice time during our drive to the destination. Even though it was a windy evening, Pol knew which spot to pick, so that we were sheltered and could enjoy both the activity and the stops for photos and snacks. I felt really spoilt with the delicious soup, hot chocolate and home-made cookies! It was a fabulous experience - I highly recommend it whether you are a snowshoeing pro or a total rookie - you will be well taken care of and will spend great moments exploring the Norwegian night landscape. A big THANK YOU to Pol and to Wandering Owl!

Definitely one of the highlights of my stay in Tromso. Something magical walking under the stars, in knee high snow with beautiful scenery. Karolis was an entertaining and informative guide and nothing was too much trouble. We were lucky enough to see the Northern lights and have some awesome pictures of the evening. Definitely recommend.

Max was a great guide, really cheery, knowledgeable and patient. We were in a small group, a couple of us found it very hard work; I've never done any snowshoeing before and am not a very sporty person, but Max was very encouraging and was able to adjust the tour to suit everyone, We were so lucky, the snow flurries cleared away and we walked over untouched snow, with a fantastic view over the mountains and fjords and ate our delicious soup under the northern lights! I am so glad I did this, I found it challenging, but a fantastic experience.

Our guide Karolis was perfect for the snowshoeing experience; he was funny, entertaining and full of knowledge and stories. We had a fabulous night with clear skies, plenty of stars, the northern lights, fantastic soup, great company, awesome warm thermal suits, and comfortable snowshoes..the list could go on. I believe were superbly lucky yesterday. We climbed about 400m and got quite hot (frankly I never believed I could be sweating) with a workout and saw the spectacular fjords even. Unbelievable! I would 100% recommend.

Our group of 8, had an arctic and enjoyable evening with Carolis as our guide. He identified an excellent route to help us enjoy the expedition even in the conditions of considerable deep layer of fresh snow. We snowshoed for about 80 mins before breaking to take some photos and indulge in dinner round the campfire. Wandering Owl has a very sustainable approach which I favour, and tries not to adversely impact the environment. I liked the flexibility, values and sense of caring that a small company does bring. Would definitely use them again if we were staying longer. Thank you Carolis!

We had an engaging and enjoyable trip out with Carolis to do the snowshoeing 'star walk' activity, in a group of 8 people. Unfortunately there were no stars visisble due to the snowy conditions. There had been 30 cm plus fresh snowfall that day and it was still snowing when we set off, so Carolis had to adjust his plans to suit the conditions. Nevertheless he found us a great spot, and once we set off it was great fun trekking across the fresh powdered snow. After approx 1hr 20 mins snowshoeing we stopped to have dinner overlooking a fjord, a breathtakingly beautiful view. Carolis made a campfire and impressed me with how he took care not to damage the environment, unlike trips with some other companies. There was lovely homemade soup, cookies and hot chocolate to warm us before we headed back. Carolis was extremely knowledgeable and I was grateful for the photos he shared. Thanks for a great trip!

Star Walk was a nighttime snowshoeing epic adventure! Our small group included four other guests from Austria and the U.S., plus our knowledgeable, skilled, and hardworking guides, Delphin and Karolis. Wandering Owl is a conscientious company that prides itself in creating a special and unique experience for all! Our guides were a joy, and we felt completely comfortable and confident in their hands. Delphin had clearly worked hard to prepare our trip with appropriate supplies, routes, and locations based on the weather and aurora forecasts. Karolis was a great help to the group, tracking with faster and slower hikers. Star Walk is well-suited for both beginners (like us!) and experienced snowshoers. Although the Tromso tourism office lists the effort level as easy, I’d definitely classify it as moderate or difficult. This isn’t just traipsing around a field; we climbed a darn mountain to reach amazing panoramic vistas, culminating in a campfire atop the mountain! We ultimately climbed 200 meters or 665 feet, winding up the mountainside (some parts quite steep) and stopping along the way for stunning photos when the skies cleared. Delphin was a skilled nighttime photographer and made sure to capture our delightful experience in artistic posterity! When we reached the mountaintop after the ~2 hour hike, we built a campfire and enjoyed hearty conversation and hot soup (both vegetarian and reindeer), hot cocoa (made with rice milk!), and vegan cookies. I could’ve stayed for hours, warm in my layers and thermal suit and among nice company, but the weather turned very suddenly with dense clouds, high winds, and sideways snow so we quickly packed up and headed down, or rather ran, slid, and tumbled down the mountain. So thickly covered in snow, it was like pouncing on a mattress. Bring your sense of adventure! We made the right decision to dress warmly in layers, hats, scarves, mittens, snowpants, and snowboots. Wandering Owl provided snowshoes, poles, headlamps, and thermal suits that we put on only after sweating with exertion from climbing and then sitting when we reached the top. The guides also outfitted a sledge with camping supplies that they pulled behind them all the way up, and we helped carry up the food and drink in light backpacks. Of course, one hopes to see aurora on any nighttime excursion, but that wasn’t the purpose of Star Walk, which was set up at a specific location rather than chasing gaps in the clouds. We didn’t see aurora that night, but no matter. We had an epic time, and we recommend Star Walk and Wandering Owl with no reservations!

I visited Tromso solo in January 2019 - booked snow shoeing with Wandering Owl as something to get me out of the hotel room of an evening...ended up being probably the best experience I've ever had!! Delphin was our guide for the night - he met us outside Scandic Ishavshotel in the centre of Tromso (where most of the tours depart from). Delphin immediately made everyone in our group feel welcome, and his genuine excitement for the night ahead was clear! He explained that although not usually an Aurora trip, the conditions that night were perfect and so he suggested we travel about an hour west to Rekvik where we could walk up a ridge to beautiful views over a fjord. He couldn't have been more right! The journey to Rekvik was comfortable and felt very safe. Delphin pointed out animal tracks on the way and we also stopped to look at some reindeer by the side of the road. Once we arrived Delphin quickly set about organising everyone with thermal suits, boots, snow shoes, poles, headlamps, and we each took part of the picnic. Once all kitted up we headed out over deep powder snow fields, watching the moon rise over the mountain. We soon got used to walking in snow shoes and although hard work we all made it to the top of the ridge, stopping for delicious thick hot chocolate and home made biscuits on the way. We made it to the top of the ridge, to the top of a 400m high cliff over a fjord with panoramic views of the mountains and fjords...absolutely stunning under the moonlight. Then..the Aurora!! What a place to see it! clear sky, full moon and such high solar activity! Delphin took lots of amazing pictures of the scenery and us that he sent over the next day. We set up camp here, with a fire, reindeer stew and bread, all made by Wandering Owl's chef. Wandering Owl provide waterproof insulated mats too so you don't get cold! All in all, THE most amazing trip! Although the walk was an exciting challenge for us, it was clear that Delphin was more than comfortable and capable on the mountain which put us all at ease and made for a really relaxing trip. As a solo traveller, I'd say this trip was more like going out on a trip with a group of mates than an excursion, everyone was so friendly! Couldn't recommend more, thank you so much! Boook it!!!!!!!
