  Train is sadly dilapidated and IMO dangerous. Way past charming. Poor gals running drinks are definitely in a precarious, dangerous situation. The rum and cokes could have been poison and coke, very bad. The rum was a very poor quality (saw the empty bottles in the trash) and over-poured. But again, putting the young girls in the difficult situation they were in made it nearly impossible to pour a decent drink. The soft drinks were directly from Coke and Diet Coke cans so they weren’t pouring the cheap stuff there. Audio for the tour guide on the upper train car (Car 4) level was inaudible. Speakers and wiring were in disrepair. Our bus driver, Mr.Rogers, who took us to/from the train, was extremely knowledgeable about the island although his delivery was a bit dis-spirited to the point where riders in the bus began rudely talking over him. He could have done a better job explaining how the overall tour was going to go at the start of the tour. At one point after about 40 minutes one German passenger piped up, asking, “Is there a train ride that is part of the tour? When does the train ride start?” In hindsight the German should have kept his mouth shut as the bus ride was the best part of the tour. The entertainment/ “dancers” seemed to be going through the motions, and understandably so given they were being asked to do a complicated dance in a narrow passageway on the elevated deck of a rickety train car. It’s a shame because the whole tour (bus and train rides) had all the makings of a great tour - beautiful island, interesting history, ocean and island vistas/views, entertainment, drinks, unique transportation, kind and attentive service staff. And the train cars were packed from front to back in the 10am run. Amazing given that the tour tickets were $135 each. By the time the tour was done our group felt like we’d been seriously taken advantage of and that the owners/management of this train operation were taking us for a (bad) ride. We warned some friends of ours, a family of five who were on their way to St Kitts by boat, not to take the tour. Not until the track and train get properly repaired.

  We booked the Sugar Train tour months in advance. At 7 PM the night before the tour, we received a cancellation notice claiming 'operational issues' at the railway. ​The reality on-site: The train was running perfectly fine! We saw guests from the cruise ship (AIDA) taking the tour without any issues. It is clear that independent travelers via GetYourGuide were bumped at the last minute to prioritize higher-paying cruise line allotments. ​The lack of honesty and the refusal of both the supplier (WelcomeToSaintKitts) and GetYourGuide to provide any form of compensation for this breach of contract is appalling. If you want a reliable excursion and honest communication, stay away from this provider. They prioritize profit over their commitments to customers.

  DO NOT TRUST THIS OPERATOR, it’s times or meeting place. My wife and I were 10 minutes early at the exact meeting location and no wine showed up until 10 minutes after the tour left. We had a minimum amount of time available due to the cruise ship needing last on board at 3:30pm. The tour operator apologized, admitted they never showed up and causing us to miss the first train. The operator arranged for us to take the next train, supposedly arranged for a taxi for us after the excursion so that we could still go to the beach, a PRIMARY concern, and there would be plenty of time before 3:30pm. Instead, the train left late, no taxi was arranged and we had zero time to experience ANY beach before our ship was to leave. The train is a mediocre experience, the tour operator is disingenuous and since our time has ignored our request for a refund.

  It is cheesy beautiful and an experience. At 25 km/h, the ancient train rushes through the area for almost 2 hours. You can't understand much because it just crunches and creaks. Below is air condition and above is open. After that you can take the bus back to the island. It's okay. I'm done.

  Very organized, staff was friendly and courteous. Entertainment was great! Train trip was so much fun. Unfortunately it was hard to hear the conductor but we still enjoyed it and recommend it to others!

  

  

  

  

  

• Impressive train ride across the island

  Impressive and entertaining drive across the island. Pick up cruise guests in a white tent directly in the port area and transfer to the departure station. However, take into account waiting time until departure, especially if several cruise ships are in port. Waiting facility with some seating in the shade.

  Tour was cancelled 1 day before. Explanation: Operator could not carry out the train journey, reasons unclear. Other guests who had booked through our ship could do the tour! Probably overbooked! Extremely disappointing, Viator only sends half-baked disappointment! Be careful!!!!
