Welcome to South Surf Costa Rica — a professional surf school based in Playa Hermosa, offering high-quality surf lessons, coaching, and ocean experiences for beginners, intermediate, and advanced surfers. Our mission is not only to help you enjoy surfing, but to teach you the correct technique, ocean awareness, and confidence needed to surf safely anywhere in the world. 5.00I’ve been coming to South Surf School for years and it’s become my go-to spot every time I’m in Uvita. Jossue and the team are genuinely some of the friendliest people you’ll meet on the Southern Zone coast. The surfboard rental process is super easy, great selection of boards for all levels, and they always help you find the right one for the conditions that day. What I also love is that in the past couple years they think of everyone in your group, not just the surfers. The beach chair rentals are perfect for friends and family who want to hang on the shore at Playa Hermosa while you’re out in the water. It makes the whole day work for a mixed group. My sister loved relaxing in the beach chair. We even got cut pineapple. The vibe here is relaxed and welcoming. No pressure, no attitude, just good people who love the ocean and want you to have a great time. If you’re heading to Uvita or the Southern Zone and need surfboard rentals, beach gear, or just a friendly crew to point you in the right direction, South Surf School is the spot. Highly recommend Jossue and everyone on his team.

5.00Jossue was an amazing instructor who never gave up on me! He was side by side and rode on the surf board to help me get my balance. If this is your first time trying surfing , as it was mine, this is the place to take the lessons. All the staff was great , attentive, and they have fresh fruit and amazing banana bread for snacks!

5.00Amazing, amazing, amazing!! Josue was so patient, knowledgeable and had us up on our boards in no time!! My husband and I had never been surfing and this couldn’t have been a more perfect experience. Chris took amazing pictures for us that will last a lifetime. After a brief lesson on the sand, we were in the water and up on our boards. After the first hour, we took a break for some cold water and pineapple that they graciously provided. The second hour we were able to fine tune our new skills and catch plenty of waves. Can’t thank them enough for a perfect experience 💙 Pura Vida!

5.00Jonathan was AMAZING!!! My lesson far exceeded my expectations! He was great with technique but also really made me feel comfortable on my board, thought me how to feel the waves, what to look for; he was absolutely amazing!! I would highly recommend lessons with Shaka Surf!! BEST EXPERIENCE!

5.00My family spent 3 days of our vacation at Playa Hermosa. Jossue and Chris took good care of us. We rented chairs from them and they kept us refreshed with cold drinks and fresh fruits. Super nice guys!!

5.00The guys were super easy going from the beginning to the end. I texted the night before and they found me a spot the next day in the afternoon. I had zero experience and our coach was very helpful through the whole process. We had a quick break with water and fruits provided to us and we even got drones footage for free at the end of the day. From other experiences I've heard of these guys are by far the best deal you'll get in Costa Rica. Would recommend 100% to anyone looking for a fun and simple experience.

5.00These guys are just fantastic! Came by without a reservation and no problem to get my 13-year daughter a lesson. They were so kind and spent extra time teaching her to turn. They took a break and provided the class with a fresh Pineapple and cold water. It's so laid back and relaxing. They only take cash and we were a few dollars short. No problem for them. They take pride in the beach which is the best in the area. Boards are new and rentals are very affordable. They know how to make you feel welcome and relaxed. Great job South Surf Reno!
