Discover the thrill of surfing in the stunning surfing spots of Madeira with a lesson tailored just for you. No matter if you’re a beginner, intermediate or an expert surfer, you´ll benefit from personalized instruction from experienced instructors who prioritize skill-building, safety and ocean awareness.
Once you arrive at the beach you´ll meet the rest of the group and our amazing staff for a small breafing about how the lesson will work.
After changing to a wetsuit and all the equipment ready, you´ll get a proper warm up and learn and train the surfing technique in dry land.
Before getting in the water our head coach will explain all the safety proceedments that you should be aware to make your surf experience safe and organized.
We usually have someone outside taking pictures from the session, ready to cheer you up and rooting for you.

What To Expect
Once you arrive at the beach you´ll meet the rest of the group and our amazing staff for a small briefing about how the lesson will work. From the start, the booking process was seamless, and it was really easy to adjust the day based on weather and tide times. Communication throughout was excellent, which made everything simple to fit into our schedule. The instruction itself was clear, concise, and thorough. The equipment was in excellent condition, and they catered effortlessly to everyone in the group—from complete beginners to more intermediate surfers. As a beginner, I genuinely felt safe and in control on every single wave. André provided clear, helpful guidance each time, and was incredibly encouraging, supportive, and patient throughout. We were also sent loads of photos afterwards, which was such a great bonus. It was absolutely brilliant, and we’ll be recommending it to everyone we know heading there!

5.00Absolutely loved my lessons with New Wave! I'm a repeat beginner, surfing too infrequently so I forget how every time, and the team at New Wave made me feel so comfortable. André is a great instructor, very positive and relaxed. He is probably the best instructor I have had. He breaks things down and makes sure to find new ways to give feedback if something isn't clicking. He really seems to love what he does and was very invested in my progression. Carina was a wonderful host, she picked us up from our hotel in Porto da Cruz every morning (we booked a package with an affiliate hotel) and gave us the lowdown on the conditions on the drive to Machico. Her enthusiasm was infectious, as good as a second coffee to get us ready for the waves. Cannot recommend New Wave more! Thank you, André and Carina!

5.00Had such a fab time with André and Carina for 3 days surfing and stay. The hotel was perfect overlooking the sea from the balcony and then everything was organised seamlessly for surf. Initially had just rented a board but after seeing André in action joined two lessons and they were hands down some of the best teaching I've ever had. Thank you so so much xxx

5.00I can't compliment the team at New Wave Madeira enough! My wife, my 9-year-old, my 6-year-old, and I booked 3 days of surfing lessons with New Wave Madeira. The 9- and 6-year-old bodyboarded, and my wife and I surfed. Andre and Margareta were both great teachers. Margareta was especially good with the kids, and Andre was fantastic all around. The lessons were in a group setting with varying skill levels, with some people having zero experience and others having more. Attention was given to everyone, and it seemed everyone improved and had a lot of fun. They selected appropriate surf breaks for beginners that would still offer good waves for beginner-plus surfers and family-friendly waves for our younger children. Overall, it was safe, fun, and high-quality. The photos are a great bonus! Carina was on shore during the lessons and got great photos of all of us. This is especially helpful for improving, as you can analyze what you might be doing wrong and right when catching a wave! My wife had never surfed before, and I surf whenever I can (a few times a year), but I never had lessons and was self-taught. My wife was standing and catching green waves on day one. All my bad habits from surfing without instruction were quickly identified, and great advice was given for improvement. I felt like I improved dramatically over the 3 days. After our lessons, I booked two days with a private guide with New Wave Madeira to check out another, more advanced wave. My guide, Miguel, was also a great teacher and helped me with wave selection and paddle timing, and gave me advice to improve my technique. He kept it safe but still challenged and encouraged me to catch waves at the edge of my ability, which is exactly what I was looking for in this experience. I caught some of the best waves of my life thanks to the New Wave Madeira Team!

5.00Fantastic surfing experience! Andre and Margarita were excellent instructors for me and my sister (26 and 30 y/os with no previous experience). They were kind, funny, clear and really patient. We loved going for a surf in the water at Maiata beach (lovely beach with lots of space for different schools to surf). The experience was great value for money, 2 h in the water with boards, wetsuits and pictures included (plus warm up beforehand). Would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in surfing!
