The walk begins at the island’s sports facilities, overlooking the old Telegraph Office. A key landmark along the way is the Lazaretta, the hospitable quarantine building, built in 1840 by the Bavarian architect Wilhelm von Weiler. Heading northeast, your first stop is the Tarsanas of Ermoupoli, the oldest shipyard in the Cyclades, where traditional wooden shipbuilding techniques have remained alive since 1860. Continuing toward the Neorion shipyard, we then pass by the small harbor and cross the Karnagio, a place filled with maritime stories. Then we ascend the steps toward the heart of Ermoupoli. Walking through the central market, we arrive at the historic Miaouli Square. Here, we will visit the public areas of the impressive Ermoupoli Town Hall. Next, we admire the impressive interior of the Apollo Theater. As we continue uphill, we pass by the neoclassical building of the Cyclades Labor Center and the imposing Church of Saint Nicholas, distinguished by its characteristic blue dome. Your journey concludes in the aristocratic Vaporia district, where we can enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters by the pier.

Small group of 8 people. Tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about the island. She gave an interesting and incite full discussion about the government on the island and took us through city hall and a couple of churches. She showed us things that a tour group from our ship didn’t cover. This trip was half the cost of the ship’s tour and more thorough.

Nafsika was an excellent guide-native to the island and great perspective on the history of the island . The points of interest were well selected and authentic. The only issue is the meet up point which is extremely confusing and not her fault. The company needs to get a better address as this caused a small delay even for a seasoned taxi driver who couldn’t find it. Allow more time for the meet up point than usual.

Nafsika was a really friendly and knowledgeable local guide who has grown up on the island. We learned about Ermoupoli and all its history and development, including the influence of Greek and Ottoman empires, its history of immigration, the arrival of the merchants, its establishment as Capital of the Cyclades, its impressive town hall and theatre and the wonderful architecture of the Vaporia. Nafsika took us inside all the key sites. We enjoyed getting a flavour of local life including the best places for coffee and wine. We were done just over 2 hours which was the right amount of time. Remember your swim wear for the a dip at the end. Highly recommended.
