The outing to Rio Claro with EcoExperience Colombia was one of the best and most memorable days of my life. Felipe picked us up in his nearly new Dacia Duster SUV at our Hotel in El Pablado. The drive to Rio Claro was about 2 1/2 hours, but comfortable and very picturesque. Felipe speaks very good english and went out of his way to put us at ease, even playing our selection of tunes and stopping along the way for a coffee at a place with a spectacular view. The "lazy river" rafting experience was absolutely amazing as we drifted down class 1 and 2 rapids for almost 3 hours in a 8 person raft through breathtaking scenery of mountains and jungle. We also made brief stops on the river for a swim, water fall and jumping off a tall rock (for those so inclined). Sounds of cicadas were impressive. At the base camp, there was also a lodge with a restaurant, opportunities for hiking, caving and zip-lining. If we had the opportunity again, we would probably stay there for an extra day to enjoy the spectacular setting and partake more in these other activities. As it was we did go hike one of the trails and got to see some nice caves. Of note, this excursion was not physically demanding, and would also be fine for kids maybe 10 and up as well as mobile senior. I am 60 years old with a bad hip and my friend had a leg brace one year post major orthopaedic surgery, and we were both easily able to do this. There are options for more extreme river rafting for those who are more seeking an adrenaline rush, although I am told the scenery is not as awesome. Overall, this was a magnificent day, and I highly recommend this outing to Rio Claro Canyon.
