The Bryan Museum is in the old Galveston Protestant and Jewish Orphanage. The grounds and the building are beautiful! It’s a fairly small museum with Texas historic artifacts and artwork. It has several short videos on the museum, the 1900 Hurricane and the orphanage. We attended the museum with our Sons’ family including our 12 and 7 year old Grandsons. The museum is a great addition to Galveston’s historical sites!

This museum had such a diverse selection of artifacts and exhibits that pertained to Texas history and Texas culture and it was presented in a smooth flow if you followed the brochures recommendations for each room. So much interactive information to choose from. And even an audio recording for each room to explain what each room was use for when the building was an orphanage. The art collection was beautifully displayed.. We have been to many day trips to Galveston and I am so glad we found this jewel.

  • Lovely Small Museum

We came to this lovely, small museum to see the artist Kermit Oliver exhibit. Oliver is a well known Texas artist who became famous partly from his work with Hermes, including creating some of their beautiful scarves. But the museum is also interesting because of its provenance. During the Galveston storm of 1900, the worst loss of life for any hurricane on record, the museum building was an orphanage. Although the storm destroyed the center of the 1900 building, the sides remained so that all the orphans and 29 of the neighbors were spared. There are artifacts and a film about all of this at what is now the Bryan Museum. There are also other very interesting artifacts from Texas history throughout the museum. And the small gift shop next to the museum has some lovely items for sale. If one travels to Galveston, a worthwhile stop!

LOTS of interesting displays in this 3 floor museum. Very well organized and things are explained well. I loved the saddles - there was a whole display of them, plus several more scattered around in various places. The building was originally an orphanage, so learned about that too. The huge hurricane in 1900 destroyed so much of Galveston and this building survived with some damage. Definitely worth the senior admission price of $14 each.

This place was amazing! We were told that Mr. Bryan is the owner of 90% of the contents of this place!!! Mind-blowing after seeing everything that was here. History from early pre-explorer days - current. Could spend hours just looking through this place, in fact...we did.
