Since starting in 2019 Mountebank's success has attracted copy cat 'comedy' tours but Mountebank is the original, best and only tour led by an actual stand-up comic and historian!
Your guide is Edinburgh based stand-up comic and historian Daniel Downie - and his trusty sidekick Brahan the dog! Daniel has brought several sell-out shows all about Scotland to the Edinburgh Fringe. He has been described as 'outstanding' and 'must see' by the Scotsman newspaper and his show about Mary Queen of Scots was named 'Best History Show' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Mountebank is all about the hysterical and ridiculous nature of Scotland's history, people, language, weather - all things Scottish basically! So come along and laugh a lot while you learn a little :)

What To Expect
Monkey Barrel Comedy
The tour starts at the world famous Monkey Barrel Comedy club where I find out a little about you, you learn a little more about me (more than you probably care to know!) I teach you some of my favourite Scottish vocabulary and then we set off on our Old Town adventure..!!

5.00My 3rd time on Daniel’s tour and still is just a fabulous experience! Every time I visit Scotland I don’t miss a chance to experience him again with family or friends. Full of History and lots of laughs! Absolutely brilliant fun. HIGHLY recommend to everyone reading this.

5.00We did this on our last day of a 2 week wonderful trip through Scotland. Daniel was fun and quite knowledgable. He made learning about Edinburgh fun. It is not,however, not for those easily offended by language or ribbing. We loved it did not bother us but fair warning. I love history so some of his stories were ones I did not know about so that was great. Highly recommend .

5.00Had a ball on this tour with Daniel and Brahan. Equal parts hilarious and historical. Learned so many fun facts and got some great recommendations for pubs & photo op spots as well. Daniel is extremely knowledgeable and a fantastic story teller. High recommend this tour!

5.00Daniel was a great tour guide, even though he raked us all at some stage, which was all part of the fun! He took the time to get to know us all and remembered our names, which was super impressive. I’ve been to Edinburgh many many times but I learnt so much on this tour that I never knew before. What a wonderful, amazing city! Special mention to Brahan, star of the show :)

5.00Wow! Such great fun. If you’re easily offended don’t book as Daniel involves everyone and will make jokes about everyone as he walks you through Edinburgh and gives a great commentary. We laughed all the way round. Highly recommended. Five stars. Best two hours we’ve had in Edinburgh.
