Mountebank the original and best comedy walking tour of Edinburgh and the only tour of the city led by a professional, award winning stand-up comedian and historian with a Master degree in Scottish history. Since starting in 2019 Mountebank's success has attracted copy cat 'comedy' tours but Mountebank is the original, best and only tour led by an actual stand-up comic and historian!
Your guide is Edinburgh based stand-up comic and historian Daniel Downie - and his trusty sidekick Brahan the dog! Daniel has brought several sell-out shows all about Scotland to the Edinburgh Fringe. He has been described as 'outstanding' and 'must see' by the Scotsman newspaper and his show about Mary Queen of Scots was named 'Best History Show' at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Mountebank is all about the hysterical and ridiculous nature of Scotland's history, people, language, weather - all things Scottish basically! So come along and laugh a lot while you learn a little :)

Daniel is a great guy and a wonderful guide. An informative and funny walk led by a Scotsman in a kilt and his fluffy dog. Precisely as advertised. He has an interesting podcast as well. I haven't done his whisky tasting but will do next time I'm in Edinburgh.

Had a great walk around Edinburgh with Daniel and his dog Bram. Super entertaining and informative, it was a great time and I would recommend it to anyone celebrating a “0” birthday like I was!

Daniel was a brilliant host who entertained and educated our group on the history and development of Edinburgh. He was able to mix his comic skills along with his knowledge of Scottish history to entertain us all, as a returning Edinburgh born retiree he most certainly educated me on the history of my birthplace !! Great value well worth the experience …highly recommended brilliant job Daniel.

Daniel made a point of getting to know the group first and then used this as part of the comedy in the tour. Great fun, lots of laughs, although a lot of adult language, he managed to offend everybody and nobody, but all taken in good spirits. Daniel also knew his history and quoted some beautiful poetry. His dog, Bran was the star of the show. Would recommend as a great tour for adults.

Danny was extremely well versed in the history of Edinburgh, a very entertaining, friendly and thoughtful host. Braham his dog was ADORABLE! We all laughed and learned a lot, my husband and I and our adult daughter and her husband were so happy to have joined this walking tour. Highly highly recommend.

An excellent walking tour with a very funny tour guide and his charming doggy Brahan. Daniel made time to get to know each of us on the tour and amazingly remembered names and used these regularly to enhance the comedy used. Not only is Daniel funny he is also extremely knowledgable on the history of Edinburgh - I always say comedians are very intelligent and this is true of Daniel. If visiting Edinburgh I couldn’t recommend this walking tour enough.

Fun filled belly laughters at times - definitely Wrap up warm if doing it in winter! Bran the dog is a legend along with his owner and tour guide. Liked the personal touch of getting to know each member of tour party. Shame no card Machine to tap for a tip as cashless Society more and more and the duo defontiely Deserved a tip

A legend and a gentleman and that’s just the dog! Really enjoyable 2 hours would throughly recommend made time and effort to get to know people - in a cashless society shame doesn’t have a little tap here for a tip machine as would have definitely tipped - well worth the money the free dog cuddles were an added bonus

We had such a great time on this tour! Daniel was hilarious from the moment we set off, and the history was explained in a way that never felt boring. His dog bran was gorgeous too. We loved it so much we’d happily do it again, and we’ll definitely be booking the whisky tour next time. Fantastic thanks Daniel
