What To Expect
Tikal National Park
Tikal National Park is the most excavated (Mayan?) archaeological site in Central America and one of the most excavated (archaeological) sites in the world. It covers some 57,600 hectares of wetlands and forests and encompasses architectural remains of the Mayan civilization dating from 600 BC to 900 AD. Tikal is the only natural and cultural UNESCO World Heritage site in Central America and one of few in the world with both designations. As such, Tikal is considered one of the top 20 tourist sites in the world and a must see. 5.00An exceptional visit with our super guide Elmer. We loved the park, we saw a lot of animals and thanks to the knowledge of the guide we learned so much about Maya and even Guatemala. 5.00Elmer was our guide and he did a fabulous jib of showing us all of Tikal while making the history of the Mayans who lived there come alive. He also pointed out wildlife including an up close and noisy group of Howler monkeys. He was both very knowledgeable and a very kind man! I highly recommend him!

5.00We did 3 tours with Tikal VIP tours and would recommend all of them. We booked directly on their website rather than through a third party, it was cheaper and we had no problems. The company were great with communication, the guides spoke great English and were very knowledgeable. Elmer in particular was great to meet and learn about Guatemala from. We did sunset at Yaxha (private tour), the ATM cave and sunrise at Tikal (private tour). We were very lucky to see lots of animals at both Yaxha and Tikal. Our guide Kendal at Tikal was great at pointing out animals and naming them for us. We would recommend Tikal VIP tours to anyone visiting Flores and we would book with them again if we are in the area again.

5.00This is one of the best tours we’ve gone on anywhere in the world. Elmer, our guide was so knowledgeable about the Mayan history and culture of Tikal. It was an extensive tour which is what we wanted. He took the time to answer all our questions. And he pointed out birds and monkeys while we walked through the jungle starting with two beautiful toucans at the entrance. You couldn’t get a better guide and we highly recommend this tour. Our driver Daniel was excellent and he took the time to drive safely to the site which is one hour and twenty minutes away from Flores. And we were promptly picked up at 6:30.

5.00The VIP experience allowed us to make the most of our visit and our guide Kendel was able to explain in detail what to know and see throughout the tour ... Kendel is an excellent guide who knows and communicates his in-depth knowledge very well. Moreover it is very care with us and the transport from Flores to Tikal is very safe ... without hesitation I recommend this tour with Kendel. Imagine we could even choose our departure time!

My first tour was in October 2022 and it was so excellent that I wanted Elmer to be our guide when my husband and I visited Tikal in January 2026. My 5 year old son and I absolutely loved our morning with Elmer and Fidias. They’d thought of everything - cold drinks, umbrellas and adapted our visit to Tikal to keep my son entertained. 5.00All the five-star reviews of Elmer are completely justified! He really brought Tikal alive for me - with his incredibly deep knowledge of the Mayan civilisation and history. He was punctual on the day, having arranged a car and driver to take us to the site. He went at my pace and could not have been more accommodating or helpful. I strongly recommend that anyone who is visiting Flores seeks out Elmer, as he will be able to turn a short visit into memories of a lifetime.
