Why is knowing Portillo an experience that you can not miss?

Getting to know Portillo is much more than visiting a ski resort: it is to enter a magical corner of the Andes where nature, history and adventure meet in perfect harmony. Whether summer or winter, Portillo offers a unique experience that leaves a mark on those who visit.

One of the main attractions is the imposing Laguna del Inca, a deep blue water mirror surrounded by snow-capped mountains and wrapped in an ancient legend that gives it a mystical air. Just being in front of this landscape already justifies the trip. But there's more.

The road to reach, known as the Snails, is an experience in itself: a road of sharp curves that ascends between majestic summits, making the journey part of the adventure.

Portillo is not visited, he lives. And once you go, you'll always want to come back.

  • Absolutely horrible .. avoid at all cost

Absolutely horrible. Avoid at all cost. I booked through Chase Travel about 3 months back. Confirmed the trip with them on WhatsApp. Today Christmas Day we woke up at 3 am and have been ready at hotel door since 5 am. They never show up. No message, no call. Hotel lady also mentioned they are not trustworthy and should avoid at all cost. They took the money but obviously I am disputing with Chase Travel and will get money back. I have all WhatsApp messages logged and screenshotted. At least they should have decent to let you know it’s not possible a few days before or in morning. Our complete day is wasted. Never trust this company and avoid at all cost.

  • Visit in the Winter, not the Spring/Summer

This was a lovely day trip from Santiago to Portillo and Lagoon of the Inca. We went in November and it was not surprising that the Winter had truly given over to Spring and the early Summer. The picture perfect images of snow capped mountains and icy lakes were non-existent, instead a lot of empty rocky landscapes. While still beautiful and a lovely drive into the Andes, I would highly recommend travellers reconsider spending their time and money if visiting in the Spring/Summer. The resort at Portillo was open - barely - and the staff really were unwelcoming to the tour group, patrolling areas inside and outside the resort ensuring that no one stepped a toe out of line, including being permitted to use the bathrooms. Though they were very happy for people to visit the gift shop and hopefully spend a few dollars in the off-season. The group requested to leave early from Portillo as there was nothing else to do/see at this time of the year. Frustratingly, after many attempts well in advance with the tour operator, it was almost impossible to get any response from them. Contact was received as late as 10pm the day prior confirming the pick-up time the following morning. This wasn't very helpful and was quite stressful - however it seems to be normal having no-communication with your tour guests in advance. This happened with another tour operator we booked with and along with the hotel we stayed at - not isolated experiences.

You should not work with this company. They did not contact me directly at any time. After reserving a hotel room in order to participate and being up and ready for pickup at 5am we waited for an hour. No one from the company answered calls or messages. We were only informed after contacting Viator that a refund was issued 45 minutes after the start of the tour. They were not able to contact the company either to determine why.

We hired the agency for a tour to Portillo and from the first contact everything was perfect. The attendant Brenda was helpful, attentive, professional, friendly, transmitted safety in every detail demanded, worried about our well being even after the walk, totally differentiated. On the day of the tour were super punctual, Guia Valentina a cute and super professional, acquainted with the local history, gave tips, finally, all wonderful. You can hire without fear.

In addition to Portillo, we did several tours with Morande and all were excellent, punctual and helpful staff. From the first attendance Loyane was super attentive and left us safe on everything. Super recommend the Enterprise and the tours offered. Certainly we will recruit the services :)

I made the trip to Chile on my honeymoon and closed three tours with Morandé: one day in Portillo, Farellones and Cajon Del Maipo. All guides and drivers were friendly and excited. We really liked the experience.

The walk to Portillo with the guide Andrés Afaro was the best, along with the driver José. Sincerely it was amazing, Andrés is very trained and attentive, undoubtedly one of the best guides of Morandé.

Punctual tour. Guia Catalina spoke well Portuguese and explained everything, helped in the photos, always warned in the Van what would be the next stop and the time we would have. Made a difference compared to other tours.
