The day time experience's are held at my beautiful cosy home in Kilcolgan.

I also run some of the experiences at my cafe, Kate's Place, in Oranmore, Orantown centre.

In my home, guests enjoy the homely feel of my Irish kitchen.

In every experience we always discuss the difference between baking bread long ago, compared to nowadays.

I also encourage the use of my fruits and herbs from my garden, where if possible, we avail of seasonal delights.

What To Expect

We will bake fruit, for example lavender, raisons and berry scones (seasonal), and spelt or brown bread. I believe in the hands on experience for my guests - from handling ingredients to kneading dough. It isn't all about the cooking, I share lots of tips from my experience over the years. I love to see the faces full of excitement and joy at the sight of the end product - freshly baked scones and bread. And best of all we have lots of fun. If you're driving from Galway city to Kilcolgan village take the first left after O'Donoghues Bar, you'll get to a T junction after a couple of kilometers, take the left and then take the first right after you drive over the bridge. I'm the last house in this estate and have a purple door.

Sample Menu

Scones and brown bread

The guests can then enjoy the goods they baked with some tea or coffee I'll provide for them.

This was hands down the best experience we had in Galway. We felt right at home the entire time! The banter was hilarious, the baking was so much fun, and the company made it a memory we’ll always treasure.

We had public transport snafu and arrived late. Thankfully, Kate was accommodating and we were still able to bake delicious treats! I plan to make both the scones and bread again when I get home! This is definitely easier if you have a car. Google maps didn't have good information and we were unable to figure out a bus that would work. A taxi is going to run you ~40 euro each way.

The bread and scone baking class with Kate was an absolute highlight of our trip to Ireland! I joined with five friends from the U.S., and we all agreed it was the most memorable part of our six days in the country. Kate is full of life, with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor that made the entire experience so much fun. She welcomed us into her lovely home and made us feel like old friends. The class itself was hands-on, relaxed, and filled with laughter—and, of course, delicious bread and scones fresh from the oven. We also loved meeting her partner John and their adorable pup, Coco, who added even more warmth to the day. If you’re looking for an authentic, personal, and heartwarming Irish experience, don’t miss this class. It’s a true taste of Ireland in every sense!
