Experience the rich culture in the Volta Region of Ghana for firsthand participation in traditional naming processes, drumming and dancing ushering you onto the beginning of the naming ceremony when you embark on this cultural tour which also include Boat Cruise on Volta River which is the longest River in West Africa. Just about one and half hour drive from Accra to the village, it presents to tourists the opportunity to see countryside with beautiful landscapes while driving to the village.
At Torgorme, the lovely and cheerfully community members gathered to welcome you with traditional drumming and dancing to the ceremonial ground. The ceremony starts by pouring of libation to Almighty God and our Ancestors to ask them for success of the ceremony. After that, the community elder will start to explain how a newly born child is named according to Ewe customs and traditions.

What To Expect
This naming traditional naming ceremony is done at Torgorme village in the Volta region of Ghana about 1 hour 30 minutes' drive from Accra where you will have opportunity to see the countryside and the lovely local people. Here, the community gathered in their numbers to welcome the guest which the organizer or the community leader will explain the process of naming a newly born child according to Ewe tradition. The ceremony begins with pouring of libations and proceed with drumming and dancing to cheer up the occasion. Tourist will be taken through making of traditional local pot by pottery makers in the village. Feel free to associate yourself with the locals and learn more from them.
Akosombo
After the ceremony, we shall go to a resort at Akosombo to have our lunch and do cruise on the volta river. the largest in West Africa

1.00The naming ceremony was sad. They don't prep you for what you are about to encounter. The people of the village are in need. Bring toys for children & money for adults or you will feel bad if you run out or dont have any. TRUST ME. Over priced. We got a broken down car & driver who had multiple accidents going & coming. Thankfully, we made it back safely. Driver was anti-social & did not add to experience by describing our views. He later took us to a resort & said, "stopping for lunch & boat ride". I assumed lunch was included. The boat ride was decent & driver played music. Lunch was less than tasty & order was wrong. When ready to pay for lunch, machine was broken & was told to use ATM. There are so many places in ACCRA w/good food & better set up for less. P.S. A driver or UBER to village is less & you can get your African name from any citizen of Ghana. It is the same names based on day of week born. When you don't know. Lol

5.00The naming ceremony was an incredible experience. The 2.5-hour drive from Accra to the village was well worth it, offering a fascinating glimpse into the countryside. Our tour guide, Freedom, was exceptional – knowledgeable, helpful, and a skilled driver. The ceremony itself was moving and memorable. We wished we'd known to bring donations, but were glad to contribute cash to the village. The return to the motherland was both powerful and humbling. An unforgettable experience

5.00Amazing and unique experience to the Volta region. The naming ceremony was so beautiful and welcoming with many villagers in attendance. I loved the explanation of the ritual and so happy to have an African name now. The boat river cruise after was very nice and peaceful. I’d love to stay at the resort that this was held. Great tour and great tour guides!
